I think it was ICANN Themselves who stopped it.

I think its a good move.

Firstly, it isn't over, but got expensive.

    Source.

With such stats, I wonder why it should be even permitted.

    Thanks, I missed it somehow.
Well due to tasting it was quite impossible to reg any domains with type in traffic manually, so it might be a good thing.
Lots of companies were really abusing the system, so this was expected.
Still you are only charged $0.20 if you return the domain

In my opinion, a really smart move by ICANN. As gsv13 mentioned, this will benefit a lot of the genuine customers.

Learn something new everyday... Was unaware that you could return a domain within 5 days of purchase.

Thank goodness for ICANN, that really helps in deceitful holding of domain names for quick and dirty profits and allow honest owners to register what they want without being held ransom.

I was also unaware of domain tasting until now

It's a good move by ICANN but why they did n't do it first itself???

I guess it is better late than never. It may be there for a reason, again good intentions tends to be abused and hence the change in policies.

Good Move. It always annoyed me that when I search for a domain, the next minute it was gone. It stinks when you are purchasing a domain, and either the session timed out or the browser closed, because if you go back, the domain is gone to someone else.

finally... that was a real annoying play that lasted too long... However, that is expected in a new market.. to hold a lot of positions to squeeze the market until it has enough leverage to hold itself.
