I beg to differ, I guess it will be the other way round, 5% of new members are dishonest.

I think that charging $50 a month will definitely stop a lot of the small time scammers, but I feel that the more sophisticated scammers, although fewer in number, would then only have to pay $50 to buy instant trust here at DP. A good scamming operation is like any other business, and for those perpetuating higher end scams, a $50 investment is like pennies. These scammers will simply steal the money to pay for access, so to them it's still free. So while I think a DP fee will stop a lot of the small fish, DP will never be completely free of scammers.

To me, as someone who sells on DP, I feel adding a fee decreases the usefulness of even marketing my products here. With less people and more restrictions, the number of active DP users will either decrease, or the rate of growth will decrease. Either way, DP seems like a less attractive market to sell to as a result, due to increased cost I have to pay, and the decreased audience that will result.

Just my two cents. Sorry to go so far off topic.

Well, I wouldn't mind paying $50 to get into the "trustable" list of members and preventing such sickening things happening to me again. :)

Having the $50 fee doesn't stop the scammers...just gets rid of the small time operators that will nickle and dime you to death. It will also force them to make their scams bigger and better to make it worthwhile for them.

I agree with the $1 a month idea... that would deterr most free loaders and entertainment seekers.

Actually i Agree with jquindlen on this one.

IF Dp keeps a fees for membership ... then people will want it for granted that they can do anything on the board without having to worry about the ban. Why So?? .. As they have paid the membership fees.

And a lot of Organized Spammers/Scammers i am sure will pay that Membership fees and continue or increase there usual crap.

Also other people(Non Scammers) who break the rules and thus get a Ban. Will have a case against DP as they will argue they paid membership money etc etc. And a few will open a Case with Paypal. All hurting the Reputation of DP. Not that good an idea thus.
