161+ links from one website, damaging?

    Hi,

First of all, what a great community. I heared about DP before, but never knew it was so rich in information about SEO, so i decided to register and ask my first question.

I have a website which ranked very high for three popular keywords until the last google update. Google really slapped me by removing my site from the top 100 results for two of my most important keywords.
I suspect the 160+ links coming from a PR5 website being the cause of this all.
The website belongs to a friend of mine, and has really high rankings in google for job-related keywords. I asked him to put my link in the footer of his website, but now every page (30.000+) contains that link to my website.
So my question is, can mass-linking from one website be damaging?

I would say now. Google would only count that link once.

If that's true, why does it display 161 links when searching for link:mywebsite.com ?
Google webmaster tools even reports 5468 incoming links from that website.

ya, get rid of those links. And though I haven't tested it but sitewide do hurt as they don't look natural, and almost all sitewides are paid links.

Yeah i'm afraid someone reported my links on that website to google as paid ones. Is it possible to somehow check that?

I am not sure about Google will count one or multiple links from one source, I still seeing the weight from multiple pages linking. Any comment.

hmmm... not sure about that.... most blogs have sitewide links for completely innocent purposes - namely, lists of other blogs they like. It's quite easy to get thousands of natural sitewide links in a very short amount of time... and all from just a few sites....

No it wont damage you, it just might not count as much as you think.
Remember links will not damage, why? because then they can be used as a weapon against other sites
