I like this idea. I'll bet there will be less crime in his neighborhood than in your neighborhood.

If you were the judge, then your opinion would matter. My opinion doesn't matter either. I like the idea of justice with no damn lawyers involved!

Homebiz, you apparently are having a hard time with the idea of equivalent force. And though my example of "wasting my neighbor" over a newspaper seemed to brighten your day, it's a pathological way to proceed in society. And I don't find your flippancy funny, either. A demonstration of other things, but not funny.

I bet you that next time someone goes to steal they will carry a gun and cowboys like this old man will end up dead.

Are you proposing we go back to the days of the old wild west?

You are exactly right. If more people would take this path our police would not be overworked.

I was not being flippant. I was serious. Maybe you should not shoot him for stealing. But if you gave him a "Mike Tyson near death beat down" Stealing would not be an issue. If you chose to pop a cap in him he would never steal from you again. You may not believe that the correct force was used, but the Grand Jury did and that’s all that matters.

Last I checked alot of robbers do carry guns. The man was protecting his neighborhood and the Grand Jury thought the force was justified. A person has a right to defend their neighborhood. Justice was served.

It was justified not so much for the bugarly but breaking into the home at night. South of the border a lot of times this turns into a home invasion. In fact there's been quite a few home invasions in Miami where the owner is killed and women and children raped. In this case the crimminals won't be comming back to do worse.

    Don't rob houses

Why did he shoot them dead though? I don't agree with that too much, its a bit extreme (they just robbed the place, not held hostages or anything)

If you shoot them in the leg or something (teach them a lesson, and make sure they don't escape) I think it serves them right.

Definitely support this guy. You break it to someones house, you violate a sacred code. You just don't screw around with people in your home. That's where your family lives, your children sleeps and there's just things barriers you don't cross, and these people deserved to be shot and killed or, shot, arrested, raped in jail, than killed.

Bogart, they were running in the opposite direction. They weren't in the process of invading a home. I understand the impulse to this - trust me, I have, throughout my life, had to keep my hands in check - but we are either a society of rules of play, or we are not. To blow away two guys running away from you is just not something I can say is acceptable.

Hope things like this don't lead to a world where people only live good, honest lives because some random old guy will gun them down otherwise.

Unclear if this has the tint of sarcasm, or you believe what this guy did was unjustified, Lightless.

It's acceptable in Texas! Those are the rules on the books.

I give the shooter extra credit because both of the robbers were illegal aliens!

I was thinking about the people who might stay away from robbery and criminal acts only because they were afraid of meeting the same fate as those two burglars.

Oh, I'm with you, man. Just the kind of America I seek, too:

"Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door...

In order to better see them, and shoot them in the back like so much garbage."

Yep, not like this kind of thinking will very definitely lead to "and you want to arm the "people?" Well done!

Yeah, well, not sure the ending of two human lives justifies the "lesson." Where does it stop - again, my neighbor took my paper. Fucker. Waste him?

What you just said makes total sense. That is why have laws in place that clearly state that if someone has their back turned on you, you can not shoot them (even if he/she is inside your home)! This jury just made the wrong decision, period.
