1. Pay attention to your Headlines
2. Write a meaningful & short description
3. Have a great first paragraph
4. Content is king and update content
5. Make it easy for others to vote / bookmark your site.
6. Know when to submit your new article
7. Prepare your server for the expected traffic

 

Asides from traffic you can get from that, its a good way also to index your website faster.

There is a plugin for WP that automatically bookmarks your site to a list of social bookmarking websites. I believe its autosocial poster but im not 100% sure. No affiliation with this product.

In social bookmarking, you will find some sites that have nofollow links. Some of these are still great to post at because they send traffic. The quality of the traffic from socail bookmarking is usually poor, unless you have very compelling content. If you find some niche social bookmarking sites similar to your theme, you will get higher quality traffic posting at those.
