What Is Wrong With You & DP?

I have been a member of this forum for awhile. Another month or 2 and ill have over 1,000 posts.

What is wrong with DP and its members?

First I will ask what is wrong you?
Since when did you have a problem with referral links? You do know that mostly everything you do in business trying to make money you will have to ref others? Whats wrong with referring you to something you was going to join anyway?

Now DP what is wrong with having a referral link to a website?
Is your goal to make this forum non user friendly as you can? Please let me know. I sell websites, ad space, and ebooks on here so I don't use referral links but if I seen something I wanted to join, I would want the person that provided the information to make his/her cut.

Please answer these questions for me and every member that do not have a problem with referral links. Because DP and the members that act like kids about referral links are killing the marketing here.

Maybe because you don't want to give someone a referral? Try something else like Adsense. ;)

Besides that, most of the people on here are low money makers, maybe can't afford whatever you're trying to sell.

Why would you take away somebody else earnings?

If you are going to join something. Why not join through a referral link?

P.S. this is not about me selling something. this is about people and DP having problems with referral links.

Its site policy here, as well as almost every other site in the world. Referral links just aren't kosher. Ask people to PM if you want to give them a ref link.

The question is why? A person shouldn't have to pm me a referral link just for me to sign up under him/her.

It's actually been getting a lot more restrictive than that. Go read the new rules under Buy, Sell & Trade.

My guess would be that the owners are tired of members writing them about every little thing. I got an infraction as "spam" for responding to a PM once. The guy was mad I wrote him back a few days later and turned it in, they did no research or they would have seen my PM was a reply to his original question.

To the poster above you that said it's standard on every site, that doesn't make it a good idea. 99% of forums on the internet are over-moderated.

I had an over under wager going on how long it would take for someone to post this. It doesn't matter the topic, it doesn't matter the website and it doesn't matter how sensible your post is. There is always someone exactly like you to respond "Don't like it, don't post here". :D

I actually frequent this site less and less because of the massive amount of sales spam and a lot of those are referral links

You can actually promote your refferal links in your signatures. I dont think that there is any problem with this.

I agree with you, they are over moderated.

See a reply like that can be called "spam" this reply has no point of view. answer the question. I been on this website a lot longer than and most likely made more money on here than you.

Why would you call a sales page spam? Its in the buy, sell, trade section of DP?
Whats your problem with referral links?

I guess it's an attempt to cut down on the number of people who sign up just to spam.
They don't want a load of posters that only exist to spam a referral link and nothing else.
If it's in your sig, and you're contributing and asking and answering questions, then it's not a problem, but there are a lot of people registering, and just posting a few new threads solely to spam their link.
If your referral actually answers a question that somebody asks, I can see that you may find a blanket ban harsh, but frankly, I wouldn't want to be a moderator on here for all the tea in china

If referal links were allowed on DP...The place will become a complete mess because of people just wanting to promote their affiliate links without contributing anything back to the community.

You want to promote your affiliate links? Sure but find other ways to do it. Let's keep DP clean.

This entire thread should go either in general chat or in feedback.....

Referral links in signatures are not allowed because some referrals wont let you make business by sharing revenue with one another. What I am trying to say is that the business should go like this:

    Person 1 likes product X.
Person 2 is clueless about X and is searching for a similar product.

Person 1 tells person 2 that I know of a great product and this might help you out, points to product X. Person two signs up for the product's features entirely.

With referral links in DP it becomes this:

Person 1 knows about product X
Person 2 doesnt have a clue about product X and is actually searching product Y.

Person 1 tells person 2 that he knows of a great product and to PM him if he is interested.
Person 2 PMs or replies in the thread for more info. Person 1 tells person 2 that Product X is Product Y (which it is not) and if he signs up through his referral link then Person 2 will become rich in one night. Person 2 buys the product because person 1 promised him in private about makin a fortune instantly.

After he opens up the packages person 2 finds that Product X was only a dildo and not Product Y and person 1 actually was the owner of Product X (..which is a dildo) and scammed him with a dildo in hand.

Person 2 becomes furious and starts a thread in suggestions and feedback of DP complaining about Person 1 and his dildo. Thread gets closed because it deserves to get closed and because he didnt read that referral links are not allowed first of all.

Person 2 becomes even more furious and starts to spam the forums saying DP SUCKS cause he bought a dildo instead of Product Y and it is DP's fault and that the mods suck cause they closed his thread. Person 2 gets banned and opens up another account in DP and does the same thing again.

Life goes on and mods get pressurized more and more, the database of DP gets bigger and bigger, Database connection lost occurs more and more.

DP's overall reputation falls because of a dildo.

    Referral links = EVIL

    Period!!!

    What's wrong with referral links?

When they were allowed before, people would signup here and just reply to topics to spam their links. We still get that, but people are now using domain redirection, thankfully the board doesn't allow newbies to actually post links so it's pretty obvious when they signup.

I personally don't have an issue against referral links in general, but when you are asking for help with something and you just get a bunch of responses that are just link spam it's really annoying. Because of this, I ignore all referral links. I won't click any tinyurl or any other redirect link, or any link that obvious is a referral code. Sure some of them may actually be useful, but 99.9% of the time it's just another webmaster trying to push their crap onto you. And if by chance somebody does get me to click and I realize it afterwards, I will take the 30 seconds to open my cookie manager in firefox and delete it.

Let's see, we are webmasters on a webmaster forum but if someone refers you to a site that pays people to refer webmasters you delete their cookie. This is absolutely ridiculous. It's called networking. This is how the original webmasters got rich, they worked together without crying because someone might make $5 when they joined a program.

The fact that this is a community means the members will self-police. Moderation should only be used for illegal content, 100% spam (bots) and harassment.

Actually networking refers to using your contacts and friends to make connections. It has nothing to do with a complete stranger spamming you a link.

Think about it this way - if they enabled it again, we would see thousands of crappy link spam every day in addition to what currently gets past all the filters and moderators. How about you volunteer 12+ hours per day to work for free to moderate all that crap and then see who is complaining.
