Duplicate Content

    Hi,

I have used mod rewrite to change my link structure (now links are SE friendly), however, google webmaster tools show that there are two links for a page. (one is the new link and one is the old link).

And I have changed all internal linking accroding to the the new links. (Old links are still accessible but orphan).

My question is, will it be a problem for duplicate content? And will the old links sooner or later dissappear and new links will take place?

The google cache will eventually catch up to your new links.

You need to 301 redirect the old URLs to the new URLs, this will tell search engines that the web page has effective moved to this new location. Do this via your .htaccess file.

i agree, 301 redirect is the best, but what happens when you have to redirect 1000 old html pages to the new ones? anyone knows how to do this automatically?

You don't need to do a redirect for each specific page, depending on the URL structure you can do it with a few lines.

hmm, i'd love to get some help because i've tried to modify those few lines, but it doesn't work. probably i don't know how to do it. i've added [R=301,L] after the specific line, and doesn't work

Use the 301 redirects to redirect old URLs to new one.

Duplicate content is generally refers to substantive blocks of content within and across urls that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar...
