Hi, You can get ranked in Google for any phrase within a few hours, you just won't show up on the front page. My experience is (and the experience of other marketers) that you may not want to rank for those phrases. For example: 'weight loss' What would you expect to sell if you ranked well for this keyword. The person doing the search is probably still doing research. On the other hand the phrase "what is the best weight loss product" in quotes only has 2,960 results returned. This keyword suggests that the person using it is probably ready to buy. The second keyword is very easy to rank for on the 1st page of Google and will probably convert well with very little traffic. Best, Scott
Ok, nice post. I'm trying to work out some of the things you are talking about. I have a keyword with 926 results with quotes. Are you saying I will be able to rank for the term without quotes, which has about 3 million results? Secondly, when you say to find more long tail keywords, what do I do with them? Do I just implement them in my article? Thanks.
Look, everybody can do that with a bizarre or unknown keyword. Get on page 1 of "make money online" or "credit card" and we can start talking.
This is a real question. What good is it to be on the first page for google if it is under a keyword that is rarely searched? I dont understand the point. Is there something beneficial down the line maybe?
Hi urbt, The answer to your question is yes. It should work on the first try. If it doesn't, then the returns on the first page of Google for that term are well optimized (for that keyword). With very little work, you can get there in a short period of time. The way to use the other long term keywords: 1/ As titles for your articles (those submitted to article directories) or for your blog posts. 2/ As anchor text in your signature box for your articles (see recent post on my blog for details). This is real easy stuff and a guaranteed way to get targeted traffic to your site. Hi seo4china, Thanks for your comment. I realize that you did not read this entire thread. With a little work and some time anyone can rank for "make money online" or "credit card". That's not the point. If you have done this yourself or followed anyone who does, you'll know that these terms do not convert to sales very well. It is a neat trick if you want to impress someone, but it will not make you a ton of money. What I talk about will send a steady stream of targeted traffic to your site for free. This traffic will convert better with lower numbers. Also, after time you will be able to "climb the keyword tree" and rank for more elusive keywords. Best, Scott
Hi, Let's use the lowest numbers. A keyword with 2 searches per day would be 60 per month. 30 keywords @ 2 per day is 900 per month. So that's a potential 900 visitors to your site for being on the 1st page of Google for your keyword. But, it doesn't stop there. A couple of things happen like magic. Google sees that you're getting some traffic. You start getting traffic for better ranking keywords. Also, if you used those long tail keywords as article titles, you'll get traffic just from your articles. What I am saying is, that for very little effort on your part you can easily get a 100 unique visitors a day (very targeted) starting with a brand new blog within the first day or so. Best, Scott
it all depends on the popularity of the keyword and how often it is being search by users. if it's a popular keyword/phrase, much more work needs to be done and there is no guarantee in results.
That is a lot of work for 5 visitors a day. You only have to do that 100 times for a your website to get decent traffic. Nice, but not useful for anyone wanting to pull substantial cash from their site. Good Work
Ok, you are right. I did not look at it THAT way. Ithink that I have been in the mindset (like most of us) that I NEED to be on the first page for every conceivable keyword known to man. I get lost sometimes. I thank you for your article and in answering my question. It was informative
Brilliant! I can't wait to get underway. I'm at school but as soon as my summer holiday starts I will be using your brilliant advice. Rep left and thanks again.
uhm ok well this is good I guess for bragging rights. I am not trying to bash your thread, but i just don't understand the point thats a LOT OF WORK simply to get 2 or 3 searches a day? so what you get MAYBE 100 people per month to come to your site....yes its highly targeted, but very few people know how to get into DOUBLE DIGIT CONVERSIONS so u can say "HEY I'M NUMBER 1 for an obscure seldom searched keyword! whoo hoo!" I'm just thinking the same amount of effort could be done to get better results U don't make much money off of 2-3 VISITORS (that's not sales) a day. especially from google, where surfers are notorious for comparison shopping.
agreed, get on page one for "credit card" ...forget 48 hours, if you can do it in a week or even a month, i got a ton of money for you
theres some great advice here but there 1 thing i dont understand i get thousands of results for that keyphrase not 689 Also people are talking about key phrases with quotes i really dont think the average internet user understands how quotes work and to use them on google
