The PageRank of your pages in Google = Low

My Cajun recipes site (see signature for link) is only about three weeks old. I just checked my Google Webmaster tools and see that it says:

The PageRank of your pages in Google is Low

Is this normal for a new site or am I being penalized? In full disclosure, most of my recipes are from a database I purchased. I am in the process of rewriting them now. Is this what is causing this low ranking? Will rewriting them help me in the future?

    Thaks

Completely predictable for a new site. In fact, I would be surprised if a new site got pages up into the "medium" PR range as displayed in Google Webmaster Tools. That takes time and work.

You're sites just new, you'll have to build some backlinks to get your pagerank up.

Put nice contents immediately to your pages and update sitemap on Google Webmaster. Also start getting good backlinks, PR update is expected this July or August, so this is good time to work hard to get PR.

it is like monthly or something they update that.
to have medium you'll need to have a page at least pr4.
if your seeing low it has updated for your site.
all your links were anywhere from pr0-pr3 when they updated it.

There's no guaranteed time when you'll see greenbar pagerank mysteriously appear for your site. While those updates are few and far between, Google is constantly updating a hidden pagerank related to your site.

The best way to see how your site is performing is to search Google for your main keywords and see where you rank.

May be it's a dropped domain with low PR - Please check the history of the domain on archive.org .. may be you get your answer there - if this is not the case then go for a good work and google will wash your site with green juice lol !

I know a couple of sites which are PR 6 and rank very well and
yet Google insist to flag them as "low" in the webmaster tools.

I think that either Google calculates the average PR of all the pages in the site,or something is wrong with this feature.

Your site is too new to get the PR.
Forget about the PR now and focus on your website, then you will get good result on next google PR update

Thanks for the information guys. One question remains though. Does my low PR affect the way my site preforms in the SERPs? I'm guessing yes. I'm making the first page with MSN but I can't even find my page on Google for my keywords.

Welcome to the SEO World dinki, as suggested above new sites needs to build links from other related sites to rank in Google, and the LOW value is just an indicator in the WMT and it's updating almost on monthly basis...

However you are ranking on MSN and that's the easiest part while it depends on the on-page optimization factors to rank sites, but for Google you can't rank with out even Good quality unique content nor Related quality links ;) And useually there is a delaying filter in Google for new sites, once the site start up it will become posted in ranking and then suddenly drop to some filter called the "Google Sandbox" and it's a spam filter which will not allow your site to show on the results... However the sandbox useually target commercial and competitive keywords only. Good luck after all.

Hmm.. okay.. so you're saying that my site is probably in the Sandbox? I'm guessing that rewriting my recipes should help as far as getting away from duplicate content penalty?
