Do you say holiday or vacation?

In this thread I posed the question to people from the US.

How about every one else? Do you say holiday or vacation? Let us know where you are from too.

 

Why do we have to talk about word holiday and vacation again and again????

 

I assume all Brits say holidays. Apart from US wannabes.

 

Vacation has a relationship with work....I think,It's more formal than holiday

 

We use the word "holiday" more commonly than "vacation".

 

holiday is a special date, while vacations is off from work for at least a week. Those are my definitions

 

Please say where you are from. It's clear that US Americans say vacation and the Brits say holiday.

How about the Aussies? Indians? and other countries where English is widely spoken?

 

Neither...I say it's "aaaahhhhhh time"

 

In our country
Holiday means 1 or 2 days business/school off.
Vacation means many days off - ranging from weeks to month..

 

For me holiday is one day and vication means couple of days.

 

holiday is christmas, easter, the 4th and such A vacation is a trip or leave from work.

I say Vacation

 

I'm from Canada and I say both about 50/50. Whatever one comes out of my mouth.

 

Aussies say holiday.

Here in Sunny South Africa we say holiday!!!

 

Both are similar but not same.
I think Holiday has 3-4 days off and vacation has a week to month plans.
Also, I think, vacation means, going far place off while holidays you just hang around, not that far.

 

In Australia holiday does not just mean "a few days off" or a public holiday, it has the same meaning as vacation.

 

We always love vacations when we are in school or colleges...


But now in work it's very difficult to get a vacation...

 

I say holiday for christmas and such. Vacation for trips.
