I just saw when I went to the Google Adsense Setup that the Referals is being retired as of late August.

I started using referals just this week and I made some decent money - its kinda sad for me!

How do you feel about referals being retired!

Referralls are gone? good! advertise a company
website for free, in the hopes people buy something?
imagine if TV worked that way, Coca cola would only
pay only if the consumer went straight from watching
TV to the supermarket to buy Cokes, regardless of the
impressions they've engrained in the consumers mind..
    yeahh right. good riddens.

I guess there are enough of us Webmansters who know about Adsense. And/Or Google doesnt want to pay out anymore.

Are referrals all together being canceled, or just Google related ones?

Can anyone confirm whether or not if this includes FIREFOX Adsense referrals as well?

Its the whole referals program thats being retired. Logic and common sense would dictate that would inlcude the firefox ones... but apprently common sense is a few pennies short.

I tried referrals, but didn't really have many conversions with them anyway.

I think this is a mistake. I have referred many people to using adsense and adwords.

I was little upset when they stopped overing the $5 and $10 payouts for those referrals but now for them just to stop them I don't think is very smart.

    Just got this email>

    Hello,

Thank you for participating in the AdSense Referrals programme. We
will be retiring the AdSense Referrals programme during the last
week of August. After that time, AdSense Referrals code will no
    longer display ads.

If you currently use referrals, either to promote Google products
or offerings from AdWords advertisers, we encourage that you take
the following steps before the product is retired:

    * Remove all referral code from your site(s): Please take a
moment to remove all referral code from your sites before the last
week of August, so that you can continue to effectively monetise
    your ad space.
    * Replace your referral ads with AdSense for content ads: If
you have less than three AdSense for content ad units on a page,
we recommend replacing referral ad units with standard AFC ad
units. This will minimise the risk of decreased AdSense earnings
when the Referrals programme is retired.
    * Run and save all referrals reports to your desktop: All
Referrals reports will no longer be available at the end of
    October.

We appreciate your patience during this transition. If you have
    additional questions, please visit
    http://www.google.com/adsense/suppor...py?topic=14882.
Thank you for your support of AdSense Referrals.

    Yours sincerely,

    The Google AdSense Team

    Bugger.. I liked referrals

    Cheers
    James

I didn't make that much from referrals after they made those changes. After the changes were made to the program, it was pretty much worthless anyway. It's kind of sad to see it go because I know there are people who made a lot from referrals and now that that feature is gone, some of those people will have to look to other sources for income.

I'm still using AdSense for my ads though. That's a shame, though about the referral thing. I JUST got the email and came over to DP to see if anything had been posted about it yet.

    Yep.
Stopped using them a long time ago.
It always mystified me that they weren't productive for my ventures.
Anyone that ever signed up under my link never went on to make a dime.

It ain't for everybody, as they say.

When I posted this I never knew how close I was to being right. Doesn't happen often..lol

It was a complete bomb for 95% of the people that used it and retiring it is the only right thing to do. I was a miserable failure for Google and they know it. It ranks up there with the Youtube Ad units which also blow big chunks. Google is losing their touch lately
