I just wanted to know what some of you guys thought about this, is it better to spend the time writing articles or putting a PPC campaign together to make the first sale? Thanks.

    fastest way to make money
    fastest way to lose money

spend time on articles and backlinks. then get into PPC..
but who knows, some people go very well with PPC right from the start. To test it out just put a daily spending limit on your account to $20 or something and see how you go

I haven't began article marketing yet and I dived straight into PPC, for you to see this is how i'm doing.

    Amount spent in PPC - £340.00 (+10 in 5mins)

    Amount made:

    Period Ending Sales
    2008-07-01 $437.87
    2008-06-16 $272.35
    2008-06-01 $228.69

    Refunds:3, total around $80.

Alot of it was wasted testing markets, right now I have only two products which work (discovered my second last week) i'll test the market more after i've received my first cheque :p hope my PPC experience has helped you decide.

    James,

Those numbers could be done, by just doing a good bit of article and link work. Create a few squidoo lenses and put in a few ezinearticles to boot.

    My 2 cents

It depends on the product conversion ratio of course. If you think you have a winner go ahead with a $100 test campaign.

Same thing I was going to say.

Yes it's definitely the fastest way to make money if you're really good at it - but I think it's getting harder and harder. There's always new people throwing away money on there so the competition is fierce which means it's harder to get clicks cheap enough to get a good ROI.

One positive aspect of PPC is something I don't hear mentioned often: It's a fast way to test what products convert and what keywords to target (if you have conversion tracking...)

Thanks guys, but I'm getting to the point where i can no longer compare the the two, but PPC seems to be more of a business to me, with faster results. I guess the plan is to find a strategy and test

    Strategies work :D

PPC could be a pretty fast way to make money, but then you need to do it right from the start, and if you want to do it right from the start then that would involve a lot of reading and studying, so it will take more time for you to go into profits than it would with bum marketing... though there is quite a 'bent' learning curve with bum marketing too, but it's safer in the beginning.

Well it's up to you anyway, personally I'm getting into PPC soon enough, I've been reading a lot about it lately.

    JamesPh,

Since I got my first paycheck from Clickbank, I will end up reinvesting the funds and FINALLY do some PPC work, in addition to building links through articles! I will start with $100, then $200, and see where it goes from there.

    TRADE ON!

I am a CB affliate and to tell you i'm a bit lazy about writing articles and stuffs like that...i went straight for ppc with Adwords, Adcenter,&Yahoo. And each one had a different story. I've had the most success with Adwords and i earned about 300$ last month, which is good enough for me. But as said, you are under the risk of going ahead of your preferred budget anytime. I suggest you play it safe, buy some coupons, pay most of the cost from the coupons so you won't have to risk much of your money. Personally i believe ppc cane be stronger but a bit riskier idea to follow...and as for articles..i wont' compare it with ppc...
