Wow, that was just a lot of ranting over nothing. Nobody can tell you what you should believe, but certainly one should have an education in religion to be able to truly understand (and choose) their beliefs. So, to the creator of this thread: go to school, study religion, study the church, study the bible, and then make your decision. Brilliant people in the past who have done incredible work pertaining to Christianity etc. certainly are brighter than you; I'd trust them before your slang communication of your understanding of religion.
I see us as advanced primates who think too much. The basics of food, sex, shit, and sleep are what lead to oblivion. If I am going to worship some god, my god is Zeus. At least he was original.
It's so clear that religion is bullshit.. The only people who can believe in a religion are people who have been exposed to religion as childs, or weak people, or people in a society which values (unfairly) religious beliefs. America is really into religion hypocrysis, so no wonder a lot of people do believe in god in america, a lot more than in other developped countries. The rates of religiosity in america is nearly as high as in under developped countries were you find the highest rates. edit: I received an anonymous negative rep with the comment "You could not be more wrong if you tried" -> but what is wrong except yourself? you are offended because you believe in god and you don't think you are either a child exposed to religion, a weak person or someone living in a society which unfairly value religious beliefs? but what you wish and reality are 2 different things.
Well, one thing is for sure, religions are made up of false stories, so I don't know if we can even talk of God without refering to one of the religions and that would be so wrong. But If there's a god, and it's possible, then it has nothing to do with what the religions says, for instance earth and human DON'T have a central role at all. It's funny how religion is made to give false easy answer to difficult questions and the ones who do believe in it then think they know it all. Religion is made to re-assure humans who are so afraid of not knowing, so they have an explanation, false, but that doesn't matter for them, it's an explanation and they're not the only one to believe in it, so that's fine they're happy with it for their short lifetime.
All religons aside, do you believe in one GOD, one supernatural power which created the whole universe? If no, why not?
When I think about it I say to myself that there are certainly things nobody knows concerning the beginning and current states of the universe. Well that's as far as it goes. But I'm not willing to believe in something just because I don't know any better or because I'd be afraid of the unknown because I'm not.
If one searches for answers he will surely find them by taking close view. However, if one stands afar and looks, how can he possibly get to know it at all? Belief in something should be backed by evidence. Where to find the evidence is the real mission.
Can you prove that you exist? Yes, of course you can. You merely use your senses to determine that you can see, hear, feel, smell, taste and you have emotions as well. All of this is a part of your existence. But this is not how we perceive God. We can look to the things that He has created and the way that He cares for things and sustains us, to know that there is no doubt of His existence. Think about this the next time that you are looking up at the moon or the stars on a clear night; could you drop a drinking glass on the sidewalk and expect that it would hit the ground and on impact it would not shatter, but it would divide up into little small drinking glasses, with iced tea in them? Of course not. And then consider if a tornado came through a junkyard and tore through the old cars; would it leave behind a nice new Mercedes with the engine running and no parts left around? Naturally not. Can a fast food restaurant operate itself without any people there? That's crazy for anyone to even think about. After considering all of the above, how could we look to the universe above us through a telescope or observe the molecules in a microscope and then think that all of this came about as a result of a "big bang" or some "accident?"
There is nothing like taking advice from a 15 year old. The kid has been here 5 minutes and has nailed down his philosophy on the human condition. nice..
Ignoring the fact that this post is lifted wholesale from here (heaven forbid a religious person should think for themselves) and concentrating on the questions asked in this rip off of an excuse for a reply. How can we look at the universe, The stars in the sky and the molecules under a microscope, and think it was all an "accident".. Well, simply, the laws of physics. We know atoms behave in a certain way, we know molecules behave in a certain way, we know some molecules are able to replicate and we know once a molecule is able to replicate it is subject to natural selection. So explain at what point is your god required? At what point is magic needed to explain it? more to the point, how can we look at the wondrous surroundings we have, The breathtaking science we have access to and the brilliance of what humans have achieved and say "know what.... Whatever made this would want me to mutilate my child's genitals, Not work on one out of seven days and dress my wife as a tent". Oh, and by the way, Look up "argument from design".
Why atom/molecules behave in a certain way? Science tells us that they don't have a brain, they can't think for themselves so why they behave like they do? What makes them behave in a certain way when they don't have a brain?
Those silly molecules are just scared if they don't obey God they will go to hell. Fear of God is what keeps all the periodic elements in line. Can you imagine all the chaos if we had atheist molecules.
The fact that a newborn starts to breathe is a fairly good one to start with. Science can certainly show us why we as humans (or animals) need to breathe to live. But science can not show us how it begins or why it begins. The best science can do is document it. Not sure if this was written perfectly, but you know what I mean.
Why wouldn't it breath? It has two methods of obtaining oxygen. Either through the umbilical chord or via it's lungs. When one fails (the umbilical) the other kicks in (the lungs). Think about it... What do you do when you are low on oxygen and high on carbon dioxide? You breath. Why wouldn't a newborn do the same thing? You know, Just because you personally can't grasp a simple concept doesnt make it evidence for a god. This kind of infantile reasoning may have worked 100,000 years ago when people couldn't figure out why the sun rose but these days it's just not good enough.
The point is "why does breathing begin?". We know how it happens because we can record/document/see it. It does not answer the question "why".
