I think a lot of bad advice is being given out in this thread now by people who don't know SEO from their ....
Have you considered to take the top 10 ~ 40 sites' PR and take their average PR as the PR vs SERP in general. It is hard to find a competitive keyword's top SERPs (top 10 sites) all together have PR0.
PR0 pages rank on page 1 (and even rank in the #1 spot on page one) all the time. As a case in point, I just went to one of my newer, cached, PR0 pages and cut and pasted a random sentence fragment from the first paragraph into a Google search box. Sure enough, it scored in the #1 spot on page one. What is my point? That sentence fragment was a totally noncompetitive phrase, probably unique to my website. So it easily scored #1, even on a PR0 page. By contrast, try scoring on page one for a highly competitive term in, say, finance from your PR0 page. Good luck!
I believe in this because I personally experience this thing in my site I am really happy about. PR 0 which is in Google's first page.
Competition results for search terms play a large part in the ranking system. Yes, PR does factor in that but it is a very SMALL factor. Jim is spot on target. Col
I would NOT call PR a SMALL factor. Its probably one of the most substantial(out of all 200 factors). I get sites that get a lot of hits in the SERPS and good rankings from the unique content on my site for the less competitive long tail keywords, but because they around a PR 3 they never rank good for the major competitive words like a lot of the established PR 4 and 5's. This is how it is for all 15 of my sites because I don't have any really high PR sites so it get most of my traffic from less competitive SERPS.
Good discussion..I love reading people's opinions PR in important I guess when it comes to competitive keywords. Or else the domain names keywords is most important.
So maybe a summay of pr would be - the more competitive the keyword you are 'chasing' the more chance you have of rating well with the better pr of the page The pr of the page is higher due to more unique content which you built around the keyword but you still have to optimize the keyword - ie backlink using the keyword The less competitive the keyword the less unique content and seo you require I hope this should sound right
No ?? That couldn't happen on DP ,surely , I thought everyone was an expert , here ! Toolbar PR and Number of backlinks are a sort of currency , webmasters deal in it everyday. Often with little basis to ranking position.
Yeah, and that PR toolbar is unreliable. One month you can have a PR 3 get knocked to zero for some penalty and then months later magically go back up to a PR 3 again. And during the whole time your traffic and SERPs change very little.
PR0 sites that are fresh usually have this NITRO boost, since Google wants fresh content and fresh news in their serp, try searching for fresh stuff in MSN and die searching. BUT this kick or NITRO will only last weeks or maybe a couple of months and more authoritive sites in those phrases will return and outrun the youngling
I think the best thing is that concentrate adding new and unique content which has peoples major interest in a particular niche and forget about PR....its unstable all the time
LOL, this question is a classic NOOB question. Expoerted PR is not claculated in real time, you can't know your real time PR, you can't know your competitors real time PR.
I think Google does not give much importance to the pr of a website . I have one blog for the keyword "Google Payload" in Google first position from the launch date to till date. But The PR is only 2. So Only quality unique content can help you to dominate Google, nothing else.
