I am planning to start a new blog for site reviews.Latest offer for "Dot INFO" is attracting me simply because it is extremely cheap at "Godaddy.com" with just $0.99 for a year. Would it be better to have a domain name with .info for the purpose? Why this domain is so low in cost? Is it equally safe and usable? I am a little confused. Kindly help me out with your esteemed suggestions and guidances.
Is the dot com etc gone - ie: the name of domain your looking for? if it is then get a .info its 99 cos its 99 - some domains are $99 and other 99c sounds a bit link baity to me if you are running a SEO blog to be honest ( and no i did not even click )
I would never choose a domain name for its price. Your site will be remembered based on its domain name and dot info does not scream out (at least to me) reputable. They are usually relegated to sites that are trying to get some SEO credits for the keywords in the title because whomever built them is trying to build an adsense site to make a quick buck off it. Anyway godaddy offers $1.99 dot coms when you buy your hosting account or any other non domain product. So you are really only saving $1 since you will have to buy a hosting account anyway.
dot info has been seen as spam site, try to paid more to get a dot com domain if you are really pay heart on your new blog.
GoDaddy has a special right now where you can get a free domain name w/ the purchase of an annual hosting plan - you have to call in and ask for it
Personally I am not a fan of the .info extension. I do own some but the only reason for that is because I own the same name in a .com/.net/.org and figured why not get the .info
.info is a bit spammy to me. If I have to choose, I better pick the .com or .org. The only advantage of .info is the cheap registration fee.
I snatched up a few .infos a year ago when I was new to webmastering cause they were cheap. Ive actually switched over most of them to .net or .com by a 301 redirect. Im no longer a fan of .info at all. I think you lose a lot of credibility and professionalism using one. I don't think GOogle really discounts them based on my experience, but you never know when they will or if they do already at least slightly.
Yea quite a few people think the 3 extensions are enough. If I own one may as well try to get them all.
Personally, if one were to do a bit of checking around, there should be some good .com or .net domains available. I usually associate .info with site traders - buy cheap .info, put in a couple of articles and sell as a package. I rarely see the search engines churning out .info in their results, so I am wary in purchasing the .info domains or even .info sites.
They're $0.99 because they are a junklisted TLD.. I wouldn't recommend catching that domain even if all the other extensions are taken.. Try not going past the .net... I'd say stay in the .com.. yet, for a blog, a .net would do... anything else is lame..
It is really enlightening with so much support. But I have further confusion as why GoDaddy is selling .info domains so cheap? even when these are extremely spammy?I understand now that I should not go for it but why this domain TLD is not banned then? And ofcourse then what purpose these domains are being used for ?
One of my sites is beating out many older established sites and its the #2 on page one for a few good keywords and its a .info. Im not saying .info is gonna rank the same as .com because that would be pretty hard to tell, but I don't think there is much of a difference. Ultimately I think you have to be proud of your work and have some sense of professionalism, so I always suggest now .com and .net and .org (and local country ones like .us and .co.uk) all the rest are lame.
Don't foget to add an extra 20cent ICANN fee that they fogot to mention. As they say, .com is king. Any other extention will lose traffic to a .com Um, because that's the way they priced it. Renewals are a lot more expensive though. Definately not safe at all! If you do use it, you could get infected with AIDS so I suggest staying away....LOL
