    Since he is new on this industry, I suggest him to start reading SEO guides and tutorials. Also, it's advisable for him to start on on-page optimization instead on directly conduct an off-page optimization.

    Just keep reading tutorials and websites on SEO. SEO has been self taught for the most part by SEOs. You can teach yourself if you have the desire. Once you get your first ranking you will be so exicited about SEO that this new accomplishment will most likely push you to become an intermediate SEO. Once you rank for keywords that start to drive a sale or 2 then your would move on to Advanced. Advanced level would mean that your SEO skills would make a direct impact on a companies overall revenue. Then there is Guru level (no more having to SEO because you retired during your Advanced level) :D.
