Ganpat, at least on this forum, this is just an old, old smear that didn't gain any traction over the months it was first attempted. It was just re-raised here.

I know, but that's the point. How can a sensible person raise that point over and over when it makes no sense. How many people actually know about his family history? They just look at his name and the fact that his biological father was once a muslim. They completely ignore the fact that he had NO influence in Barack Obama's upbringing.

hahahah - well, man, you'd have to take a look at the threads I'm speaking of, take a look at the bloody spot on the virtual wall, and the virtual knot now mounted at the nexus of my hairline and my forehead, to understand there was at least one person who repeated your line above, while comically pounding his head against the wall.

Actually, he is only half black.

Reasons people do not like him.

Wants to raise taxes on people that create wealth.
Has no previous knowledge or experience on foreign policy.
    Is arrogant.
Plan for energy is to do NOTHING. Oh, except tax the people we buy oil from, who will in turn just raise their prices to compensate.
Wants to raise payroll taxes on employers to continue to fund the failed Social Security system.
Wants to bring taxes back to pre 9/11 record levels.
Wants to increase taxes by 15-30% on the middle class and upper middle class.
Defines wealthy as those making over $200k, even though, an average upper middle class American family with 4 children, two incomes and college educations is often times just squeaking by on $200k, after the already ridiculous tax rates we've had in the past.

Obama seeks to tax and spend in the true old way of the Democratic party. He seeks to lower our defenses by cutting our military and military presence around the world. He wants to socialize health care, and continue to fund failed entitlement programs of the past. He wants those who work hard to be punished for that work so that those who do not work hard can have anything they want for free.

Obama wants change alright. He wants you and me to have nothing but change in our pockets.

But hey, anyone that thinks any of this is just saying this because Obama has dark skin.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    This we can all debate.

No, we tend to think saying:

    and

and on and on, is due to something other than a problem with policy:

And factual remarks about the nature of ones religion, associations and previous experience has what to do with race?

I think this is one perspective. My concern is that people think he can do all of these things either as a boon or a threat.

The President is not the supreme leader. He's not the head of the government. He is subservient to the will of the Congress (or at least he should be).

My problem with Obama is that he speaks in generalities, and his voting record contradicts what little he claims to stand for. In other words, he's a sham.

At least McCain is the real deal. A real meathead war mongerer with a bad temper and no clue about the economy. That is actually for real.

Obama? No one knows what he is all about. Now on DailyKOS, people are arguing that when he votes for bad legislation, it's all part of the Obama plan when he gets into office and reverses all the bad legislation and hunts down all of the criminals. I mean, gimme a break. This guy is bought and sold by special interests, one only has to look at his campaign finance disclosures.

Obama's color is not an issue because he never positioned himself as a black candidate. Unlike Jesse Jackon or the likes, who equate everything in terms of race, Obama has never played that card.

People like Obama because he is idealistic. He says the right things about tough issues. Whether he follows up on them or not is left to be seen. I do hope that he does.

The reason I am voting for him is that he is the better of the two alternatives. Obama won't be able to change much. Too many things have been set into motion by Bush. However, with him in power, the Iraqis and the Afghans will realize that they don't have a babysitter any more. If they don't clean up their act, they will be abandoned by America. That changes their attitude towars things.

A friend of mine just got back from Iraq. He was sent to train the Iraqi police in combat techniques and other similar stuff. His biggest complaint is that they were just lazy and not bothered. Why work when you have nothing to loose. With obama in charge, they know that he is looking for some sort of exit strategy and they will get off their butts and do something for themselves for a change.

Also, i don't think Obama can end the war. It is too late and he won't get an okay from congress. However, he is looking for an active exit strategy unlike the current government and that changes things. His leadership will challenge the Iraqis as well as leaders within the United States.

So unlike most people on the net, i neither think that Obama is the answer to all our problem nor do i think that he is a problem in itself. I think that he is the best solution for us given the current problems as well as the current leadership.

If living under a rock=staying away from Republican propoganda, then yes.

I didn't say that Obama hasnt spoken about race, i said that he hasn't positioned himself as a black candidate. There is a difference.

Ok, so reality is no propaganda. That's a new one.
No, he has positioned himself as the "First African American" presidential candidate. Yes, there IS a difference.

An excellent post. I know those of us who support his candidacy, for whatever our reasons, are collectively called "robots," etc., on this forum, but to be honest, I'm seriously cynical about the future. I just happen to think out of everyone, Obama has an ability to improve on what we have now, and not the least of that is based on his personal abilities. That said, I think he's got a long shot ahead of him, at best. We're a mess.

In this respect, I do have to say the Ron Paul people have brought me to think on things I didn't think as deeply before - though I think an RP presidency would be a disaster.

Ron Paul's ideas were too revolutionary. Change is brought about slowly. If you want to change too much too soon, people will be scared and won't back you. It's all good to talk a big game, but real life is different.

Yeah, better to be like Obama. Stand for nothing, and talk about nothing.

People love to vote for a full of sh*t politician who has never done anything, and speaks in generalities.

It speaks more the general ignorance of the masses, than to any sort of validity gained from being popular.

Typical republicans. If they don't agree with you, they must be ignorant. It is with this thinking that you scared people into keeping shut for the last 8 years and look where we are now. No one likes us, costs are going higher and higher and we are still arguing within.

The entire point of a democracy is to be able to support who you like and to voice your opinon. If you mock and criticize anyone who does so, you don't deserve to live in a democracy. If that is what a Ron Paul supporter is like, then i am glad there are so few of them.
