Hi, So the situation I have is I recently only discovered that paypal fees (the fees you get when you receive each payment) could be avoided if you have a personal account. I mostly use paypal for receiving payments for small services I perform. I have a premier type account. I felt at such a loss for using the wrong type of account and getting unnecessary fees. So I signed up for a personal account which I then discovered that personal accounts shouldn't be used for selling goods/services. So I suppose I have been using the right account so far? Although paypal only says you 'should' use a premier account if you plan on selling goods or services. I also saw this: So does that mean as long as you receive less than $500.00 USD per month, even if you're selling goods or services you would be eligible to be using a personal account? I had trouble looking for a statement in their terms that stated that using a personal account to sell goods/services was strictly forbidden. (Although I probably missed it) If it is against their terms to do so, at the least I can still use the personal account I opened for getting payments from friends or family. Since I only have one bank account at the moment, my second question would be: is it okay to remove your bank account from your premier account and add it to your personal account to withdraw funds and then remove it from your personal account and add it back to your premier account? I figure I would keep switching between the two if I needed to withdraw from either account. But I'm not sure if this is allowed or even possibly place me in the 'suspicious user' category, which I wouldn't want of course. Hopefully I didn't write too much. Thanks.
Don't do that, else your account will be flagged i advise you to add CC or VCC to your personal account
Oh ok. Or instead of adding CC/VCC I could simply just open a new bank account and add it to my personal account. But does that mean I am able to use the personal account for receiving payments even if it's from selling goods or services (providing I keep it under $500/month)?
You have to use different credit card or bank account and email id for the two Paypal accounts you are allowed. (one personal and one premier/business) You are allowed to recieve payments to personal account from sales if you do not have a premier or business account. If you have a premier or business account then you are not supposed to direct the payers to send to personal account. Ofcourse you may do it discretely if you are prepared to face the risks if Paypal finds out.
I see. Nope, I don't want to face any risks. So from what I understand, if I had not opened a new account but instead downgraded my premier account to personal I would be able to receive payments without fees even if it was for a service... I guess there is no way to delete a paypal account either?
You can close a Paypal account. Log in to your account and go to your profile summary section. Under the column Account Information at left you will find a Close Account link. You will have to provide your bank account / credit card numbers to close the account.
Referring to the quote which you got from Paypal, you would notice that 'service' is not listed as one of the activities which a personal account can be used. I believe that Paypal allows you to use a personal account to sell small personal items via ebay auctions and the likes which does not amount to a business. Once you perform a service, you will inevitably be involved in a business whether you like it or not. The option for a personal or premier account is not about whether you want to pay for fees or not. If you are using your account for business or making money, no matter how big or small the dollar amount is, you will need at least a premium account. You may downgrade to a personal account but by doing so, you give up the rights to use the account to make money from. Besides with a personal account you be restricting yourself to customers who are existing payment sellers who keeps paypal balances from the 40 out of 190 countries if you can go under the radar. I know that you may feel a pinch to reward people who help you make money but that is the cost of business. You cannot run a business without costs and you must know that paypal is not a charity or an organization which does not have expenses of their own. Put yourself in Paypal's shoes, would you provide your services for free ? From what I understand, you are charging your customers so if they are in your shoes, wouldn't they feel that paying you your fees to be excessive ? In life, you cannot be the only one to benefit, you reward those who help you so that they can help you in the forseeable future. No one do things for free at least not in business.
you can instruct whoever sends you the money to do "mass payment" - no fees would be charged you can have more than one pp account yes, you can remove card from one acc to add to another
Thanks for the information. I guess I will stick with the premier account. At least now I don't feel like I mistakingly got fees for no reason.
