I am looking for a php script (like phpLD) for building SEO friendly Directory. The script should have built in mechanisms like captcha, bad keyword detection to filter out spam, and should support various payment options apart from free submissions. The free submission should have an automatic check of reciprocal url. Basically I do not have much time to babysit a directory, so I need all these features. I would appreciate if someone suggests me a good directory script with such features. I do not mind shelling out a few bucks. Thanks for your suggestions.
phpld for me is the best script. Easy installation, support forum, free version. I highly recomend this, also mod_rewrite module make it very SEO friendly. However there are a lot mods easy for install , it wont take you more than 10 minutes to do it by yourself
If you create a sucessful directory site you will need to devote more time to it as you dont want to auto approve all the listings, some may be garbage. you can take a look at bidding scripts such as phplinkbid that will get you only paid listings, but you will need a high pr to get any $$$$ good luck
MosetsTree for Joomla. Many Preferences for everything, with little knowledge of html and php will work at 100% better from Dmoz.org. Very Seo Friendly. Example: RSS News Free Directory
You should try http://phplynx.com they has a free version and it comes complete with contact, refer, report, rate features already installed. It also has one of the best anti spam features available, namely anti bot, the site also has demos if you would like to take a look. bad word and reciprocal are also included. You can have (i think) up to 7 different types of listing also. I have used it for over 2 years now with no issues at all. Thanks aubenrey
I'd also say phpLynx suits your needs to the closest match - not only can it cater for various payment options, but also payment methods - whereas phpLD only accepts Paypal payments. It is a very simple piece of software to use, which can also create a diverse, complex directory if need be
For a change and to stop this turning into YET ANOTHER stone throwing contest why don't you step up to the plate hheng and tell us just WHY you think esyndict is better than anything else out there except phpld? The both of these have nowhere near the built in features of the script mentioned above and in my signature so lets hear what your views are on why rather than just chiming in with an unfounded comment.
Here are a few you can look at Tolra phpLD esyndicat phplynx and edirectory is very nice but very expensive. If money is no object and you really dont mind "shelling out a few bucks" edirectory does seem to have the most features. From amoung the others read the features, try the demos and see what works best for you. I don't really want to get into one of those my script is better than your script conversations that seems to be developing.
It seems it's you who choose what software to use. So you decide yourself and choose from a huge list of script just compare demos and features just compare this yourself also eSyndiCat has many plugins that are easy to install
No it doesn't it has 'different features' than some other scripts, not more. It's about time people who posted on these forums did so AFTER experiencing all the scripts instead of assuming one has more or less features than the other, that way people can get a better and more qualifed picture of just what it is in on offer.
I'm not so sure that this kind of url is SEO friendly? This is an example of a site using the script you mentioned, http://www.regularlink.com/animal,pet,directories,categ-289.htm Take a look at all the comma's in the url, what's friendly about that?
Nothing unfriendly about that. And it looks like Search Engines like that, since most qlWebDS Directories pick up at least a PR3 or PR4 usually on their first PR update. I do not see that however on directories running other scripts. You have all the right to stick to your dashes or whatever you use in the URLs. Good Luck! In any way. What is your agenda with those attacks. I have been peacefully ignoring you. So what's the Deal? Sales are slow?
Not attacks contactusa, just can't be doing with people shouting out things without backing them up. Sales slow? Doing just dandy thanks. I can't see that url method being friendly but if it is that's great, it just doesn't look tidy to me but that may be just a personal preference.
Jamie it does seem like you are attacking others posting in this thread about anything other than your lynx script? The OP asked for suggestions on directory scripts and in my opinion people should be able to post their opinion without you jumping on them. I don't think the OP had it in mind for you to jump in and criticize the suggestions of the other posters in this thread. I have been looking pretty intently at different scripts over the last few weeks and even at lynx. Trying the demos, reading reviews and features and asking questions of highly regarded coders who are kind enough to give their opinions. So you talk about backing up statements but did not bother to give an example of another out of the box script with more features than the eDirectory portal package.
I have QUESTIONED things, nothing more. I would much rather people compare features of ALL scripts and make their choices on that basis not having false information has been given to them. Hope that clears that up. As for your comment on eDirectory, as the script in my sig has a many features that eDirectory doesn't its pretty even on that score except for one thing... THE PRICE!
