    Hi,

I have been working hard of late to improve my page rank within Google. I believed that page rank was the key to improving your positioning in google but have recently been told that it is nothing to do with positioning and that is SERP.

How do you improve your SERP and what factors affect this?

Is SERP and PR related in any way and if PR does not affect your positioning what exaclty is it used for?

P.S I am always looking for exchanges. Please PM me if interested.

    Many thanks

    James

I do not think that SERP and PR is 100% correlated. Have seen too many examples of sites with lower PR or even no PR ranking higher than me. I guess SERP depends on the content on your site while PR is an aggregate of content and backlinks.

All I can say is my page ranks have gone up and down all over the place over the past few years and my search results haven't been affected by this at all. My most popular site was a PR 6 a few years ago, but it's hovered around 4 or 5 most of the time and is only a 2 at the moment because of some text links I guess - but it gets more visitors now than ever before.

The site has over 1000 unique pages, written by me, and has been online since May 2003 - both of which contribute more to the SERPS than anything else I think.

Only Google knows the exact factors but links, content, proper use of keywords are some of them.
They are not related. PR is mainly used by sellers/buyers while selling/buying links.

Maybe depend on what keywords you are searching for.

personal I like SERP more than PR

What i think is that - With High PR, You have more chances to get index fast, get on top of results. It's true that many non PR or low PR websites sometimes shows better SERP than high PR, but they are not stable compare to high PR. They come on top because of freshness of contents but they go down as well.

PR gives your site long term trust and quality indicator on your OUT going links. New fresh site can come higher in SERP on content alone.
Finding the right combination is what will take you higher in the SERPS. I prefer a few high quality incoming links and good content then loads of links and crap content..

PR is one of the most important, but not the only factor in SERPS.

I would tell you that the easiest way to improve your SERPS are to improve you PR. At least, it's the most quantifiable way.

The sites I can't beat in Google always have a higher PR than me.

Not for me. There are sites ranking on top in the SERPs with lower page rank than mine.

And there are high Page Rank sites with little traffic....

I totally agree with the above, PR was created to rank pages on the whole web and it's the core of Google alogarithm even if there is another thousands of factors it's the most important one.

the only thing where the page rank will play is - if a page "A" from one site and Page "B" from another site with equal score, equal weight and other ranking factors, then google will give prioirity to the page with high pr than the other.
