Pushing Affiliate Links

I am a newbie in this field of Internet marketing and something dawned on me which derived from a comment that was made to a previous post by me concerning marketing. I noticed that a lot of people that have replies to my posts and others have affiliate links that they are trying to steer me towards. If I were to go to some of these links and check them out without purchasing anything or signing up for anything, does the person that is pushing the link receive some type of monetary benefit? Or would it be necessary for me to buy something, or sign up for something before that person receives any monetary benefit? Or does it vary?

What if whatever you are signing up for is free? They still get paid?

It depends on the Affiliate Program they are in. Maybe some of them get paid for free sign-up.

Very rare affiliate program will pay you for just webmaster sign-up. In most cases webmasters are pushing referral links in there signature (like me) and if someone sign up under them, they don't make money just yet. Let's make a case. If you sign up under any affiliate program in my signature I won't make money as long as you don't make money. When you make money, affiliate program will reward me with bonus. In most cases that is around 5-10% of what you make. But don't worry, they won't take that money away from you, they would give me that money out of there pocket.

Webmasters are trying to build their 2nd tier. Some affiliate program give cash bonuses for those who get new webmasters to sign up. Other programs give a percentage from the sales the new webmaster makes. Others give both; bonus for signup and percentage for sales.

The problem I noticed with those pushing links on you and other webmasters is that they don't get in touch with the webmasters they refer and I've seen webmasters with hundreds of 2nd tier webmasters and none of them is making sales.

I got far far less than hundreds but some of them are making sales because I get in touch with them after they sign up.

There is money to be made from teaching others.

I don't want to push any links on you, but let me know if you want to join an affiliate program with 2nd tier possibilities. :)

Well if people are using a site like Never Blue Ads or Max Bounty it pays you directly a certain amount when people either sign up for a site or buy a product. Some people join programs such as bux.tu and you get paid a certain amount of whatever the people below you make. It all depends on what they are promoting.

I am not offended by people pushing links on me because the underlying name of the game is making some money and obviously if you do not push links then you WILL NOT make any money. I just want to know the various ways that it is done so that I can do it in the best manner that suits me.
