if you want to maintain a blog because you want to earn out of adsense - you will never succeed. first create the content, money will flow later
I would suggest starting a blog about a topic that YOU want to write about. 'Autoblogs' (scraping other's content) certainly work (I've had quite a handful before), but they're veering into blackhat/copyright issue land. Oftentimes they're more of a pain to manage than a real blog, believe it or not.
It sucks. First off don't bother writing about news. There are 234234 other news agencies all doing the same thing and also 23234234234 trillion bloggers as well. The bottom line is that there is tons of competition. You need to write a solid website that gives value to the readers and is unique! News blog, its been done and it is very old. My best advice is to make a blog about some upcoming movie,tvshow, game, whatever. Focus all your time to finding out as much as possible about it and write everything you can about that upcoming thing. The reason for this is so you can work on getting good rank in the google serp when there is little competition. Once that product you are writing about starts to get close to release date everyone starts to search for it. From that point on, if you've prepared appropriately you will receive massive amounts of traffic and will probably remain a dominant google serp after that. I know one guy who all he did was make blogs about upcoming music artists. He would research their background, post pictures, write down the lyrics to their songs and so on. Most of these artists didn't become popular but there was some who made it big as in billboard top 10 for the week. This was years ago. Even though the guy never updates the blogs they still rank in the top 10 for the artists name just because he made all those blogs a long time ago. Don't go after quick profits. Go after the long-term cash flow websites. You want something that will give you 1$ per day for the next 10 years, not 25$ in 24 hours.
