£20 web domain name to go for £1million 26/06/2008 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2008/06/26/20-web-name-to-go-for-1m-89520-20621262
Yes, it's an IDN domain. http://www.£.com = http://www.xn--9a.com/ "(to access £.com directly users need to have a 2006 or later web browser)." I'd be surprised if he gets a lot for it. The auction is not at any traditional auction site but is being held at the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam and you have to contact their agent to participate. Maybe that's the plan - sell it to someone who doesn't have a clue about IDN domains.
Didn't know myself that you could register IDN names 9 years ago... Anyways, doubt it will sell for 1m. I doubt it will sell for 500k pounds.
So? ....what did it sell for? I don't see the domain world all abuzz. (WHOIS says it [xn--9a.com] was registered on 25-Apr-2004)
Its not true that its only one of two domains with a single symbol, not even close! There are plenty of IDNs out there, like the first one in my sig...
Yeah, I have one too. And to my surprise, Google even indexes it. It works in web browsers, but not in any email clients that I'm aware of.
