i was about to submit to alive, 50 bucks an year seems very steep , is there something for dp members ? or some discount for submitting to both alive & aviva ?
I've had a good look at the directories listed in this thread and found that apart from the landing page, then the page where your site is likely to be listed will be on a page with a PR of 0 (that includes Yahoo). So how can these directories be worth submitting to when most of their pages have a poor PR rank ?
You're right my friend and I just realised I was posting to a thread that is a year old !! Still, it's interesting to see how things have changed in that time. Perhaps directories should be avoided now ?
hmmmm, it's only 27 hits - not many at all. And Alive is supposed to be one of the top directories Use targeting instead.
Those stats are from 2006 before directories got dealt to by google. I doubt many are finding their way to this directory now.
Doesn't surprise me Neb. Most think their directory is the best, until it goes down from lack of traffic, then Google shuts em down in some way, trouble is most was a bad idea to begin with - but it's too late isn't it. I wonder how much Alive cost to build, some cash down the tubes on that one I guess, and what about the poor directory owners that bought £40 listings - Ouch! I was considering going for a listing in Alive and Bluefind, so glad I didn't.
Interesting. At the start of this thread it was so cool to be on Alive directory. 18 months on.... PR dropped and a link on the directory is worth much less. Although the prices are still the same. Like Spiritus said, it's really interesting to see how things change.
Thats whats so fantastic about the pay for inclusion directory industry, you get wiped out, you mutter that you have worked out where you went wrong, throw some hype around, and rehash a new directory and start charging the same webmasters for a listing all over again.
perhaps you should be off warning all of these gullible webmasters not to waste their money ? I just did not know there were that many stupid webmasters out there, you surprised me. I had a wild thought that most were intelligent and made valued judgments
Exactly - what did people think would happen, ofcourse it was going to hit rock bottom, because the idea isn't strong enough and intention was just to make money! Bound to fail as it was clearly selling PR
hehehe - you see! Directories cannot claim to give a hot service, then rip customers off. Paying customers don't forget and will spread the word about their bad experience, then it's down hill from there on. Lot of stupid, desperate folk that will buy into anything that seems good. Too many copying each others promotion plans. Judgement is required before following the herd
