Well at least you should still be aware of getting a sitewide links. Actually, it can drop your rankings. SE's suspects sitewidelinks as paid links.

    For example,
Site A has approx 5000 indexed pages
Site B has approx 200 indexed pages

If Site B links to Site A, the number of backlinks of Site B pertaining to Site A could be suspected as a paid links by the SEs. Why? Let's say, Site B has approx 3000-4000 backlinks coming from a single site.

Well, that's just my opinion. [IMG]

I don't agree on this. There are lots of ways to get good ranks from SEs... ;)

Agreed. I knocked a top 5 ranked site out of Google with one sitewide link. :) It went from position 3-5 to 900 in one week. lol

Look at it this way. If your site has 200 backlinks now, how would it look to get a quick 2,000 links from one domain?

Large backlink profiles are more forgiving, so just be careful...

For new sites, I prefer in-content links and single page links over sitewides as SE's can consider them as paid links.
As for the sitewide links, a number of people link to authority sites like collest-gadgets etc and they still rank for their keywords. So, Google takes a number of things in consideration while dropping/improving rankings. If the site is old and is an established one then sitewides are not that bad.

i also think the same way
it may give you both positive and negative results
Good:: might increase number of links
Bad:: might be considered as spamming
