Hi, I'm about to have 50 articles written by good writers and have a question on article titles. e.g. Wordtracker keywords says: "Real Estate Investing" has 197 searches a day. Now should i just have the title of the article as Real estate investing or should i have these keywords as part of the title like, "Learn about Real Estate Investing." Which would the SE's prefer and is the 1st an obvious attempt to manipulate them? Thanks
Depends, remember heading tags are used to "structure content", not to juice search engine crawlers with keywords. Your heading tags should be exactly what the content is about, used with unique quality content written for humans and not search engines you can't fail. Below is an example of structuring content. h1 - Entire Web Document Subject h2 - topic 1 h3 - sub-topic of 1 h3 - sub-topic of 1 h4 - sub-topic of sub topic h2 - topic 2 ETC
It is advisable to have your target keyword in the title of your article. But what would matter most is the anchor text in your article. Use your keyword in the resource box.
Let say you want to do SEO for "Real Estate Investing" . For your first article, you could use those keywords as title, but as link building is more then a one shot deal, you will want to submit another article treating about the same subject, how will you name it ? That is why it is better to give real title to each of your article, but titles that include "Real Estate Investing" as your mentionned in your second example.
Thanks for the posts guys - now i'm going to sound like a complete amateur, but Seo101 you mentioned about the importance of the anchor text in the article. What is anchor text? In wordpress control panel i have an All in on SEO pack: It includes a Title, Description and Keywords box. Are these important, and do any of these involve the anchor text? Thanks again
Anchor text is the visible text component of a hyperlink. The anchor text in your post for www.namecake.com is Virtual real estate.
Yes this is right dont write with se's in mind try to write a title that will make poeple want to read it but its the anchor links that are important
Keywords are very important elements of a page especially those that are attached to the title part. Better make a good and catchy title using your target keywords that best describes the article as a whole.
Thanks for the advice - i think i was about to make a big mistake. So with the Anchor links, i have an article: http://www.namecake.com/?p=627 In the wordpress Seo pack - i have set the title to: Domain Extensions and types of domain extensions explained - can you guys see this and is this what you mean by the anchor link?
I advise you to concentrate more on making the titles eye catching and user friendly, make them stand out and look clickable. You want readers to want to click on the title, then think about search engines secondly.
Make sure the keywords are in there, but add some spice to the mix to make it interesting. You want your readers to be grabbed by your titles, so that they will actually take the time to read the article through to the end..
You could also try using your keyword by state like: Real Estate Investing - Calaforina, Real Estate Investing - Utah, etc..... This will help your keyword become more specific and rank you higher in those specific keword searches. Make sure you keyword is well used in the main body of the article especially the first and last paragraph. Personally I find using it approximately 20 times in the document (without it looking stupid) will also help, but this is only a personal view.
A much better example would be "Real Estate Investing in California, Utah, etc..." - and then there's also the benefit of targeting it to the audience you're trying to reach as well, such as "Learn the Secrets of Real Estate Investing in California, Utah, and Idaho the Experts Don't Want You to Know" for example. (Though admittedly the example I gave would make a MUCH better H1 heading than <title></title> tag content.)
Publishing 50 articles with the same title is not a good idea. Place some other "second level" keywords as well and you will be surprised from the longtails traffic
