Hostgator is Deteriorating rapidly and Not Safe anymore

I've been using hostgator for over 3 years and now have 4 account there. Things used to be fine until last few months.

During the last 30 days my sites were hacked 5 times! Every time they restored the backups or I had to upload the pages manually. And every time they say they don't know how... apparently hostgator is so secure that any 13 years old Iranian kids can hack any account and change your site to some dumb page saying "your security sucks, our h4ck3r team is the best" pretty easily and without leaving any traces.

But moreover, yesterday some moron from admin team named Chris Dixon decided to suspend my account and redirect all my sites hosted there to hostgator parked pages without even explaining why. You can see all my sites in the sig aren't working now.

I've spend half the night trying to talk to these idiots on the phone and online chat, but apparently you can only reach an admin, or supervisor by opening a ticket and then you have to wait a few hours for some useless one line comment from a random support guy who has no idea what he's doing, then you reply explaining it all again and wait few more hours..

Meanwhile my sites are offline and I'm looking for another hosting company to move all my stuff to.

So there you have it.. hostgator used to be quite good, but things change rapidly. Lots of other hostgator sites and accounts have been hacked (just do a search) and the support is just getting less competent and inefficient. It's time to look for alternatives and stop recommending hostgator.

I just want to throw it out there is there a possibility your sites are the ones being hacked? I really doubt it's the entire server that is being compromised. So if you have not been keeping your scripts up to date this would explain why it keeps happening.

I'm not going to say use us junk, because in cases like these switching hosts is not going to solve the problem of your scripts being insecure.

No I sadly have to agree, host gator is falling down a steep spiral, fast!

I've been DDoS'ed a few times this month, I contact host gator and the live chat employee actually told me,
"Can you please explain what a DDoS is?"...

If you are looking for an alternative, or at the very least another place to host other sites/backups, we've been doing this for 11 years now. Things do get hacked and broken into from time to time, but we have had a great record when it comes to security here and staying up to date.

I see your sites appear to be back up at the moment. Sorry to hear you are having so many problems.

I have to disagree here... Hostgator keeps being a great host for all my sites. Never had one single problem. Maybe what you guys are describing are isolated incidents.

If your using a script or anything, it may be a exploit in it and not the Companies fault.
If you want a new host, you could give us a shot.

So far I'm happy with Hostgator and never had any problem with them. I believe that you need to back up your files yourself and use a secure web software.

Back this up with logs, because I know Brent, and I know hostgator. Their sales/support reps are required to know that sort of stuff is etc.

As for the OP's issue, they are not responsible for making your scripts secure, it doesn't matter what host you are on, you are only as secure as your host, you are only secure as your passwords, and you are only secure as your scripts. Hostgators servers are in fact very secure, so that leaves the 2 that you are responsible for. It is like a 3 legged stool, you need all three legs.

    Thanks everyone
They enabled some of the sites again, but a few are still suspended, like: www.xwss.org
here's a cache of hacked page

I'm choosing a new host to move my sites now. It's gonna be a pain to move that many sites/files/databases etc :\

Find a host who would move the sites for you.

My host (micfo.com) moved all my sites for me.

In fact, I moved to micfo after I tried hostgator...:D.

Did you not read what people have been saying? The issue will not be solved by just switching hosts.

The fact that hostgator suspended them tells me your site scripts were hacked and then malicious users were doing things on your accounts. As a result hostgator suspended your accounts so that the malicious activity would stop.

Im about 90% sure it wasn't HostGators fault. Even if you switch hosting companies the same thing is going to happen. If you want I will get Brent to check this thread out to see if he can help you out with anything.

I think you are using Joomla/wordpress sites.
    You should upgrade the script.
