Almost 3 Years and No Luck

It all depends on the Category editors. They may have a backlog or they may not in the mood to keep up with the backlog. The particular category you submitted to may not have a sub-editor and it may sit there for years.

However I disagree that DMOZ is unused. There are hundreds of sites that populate their own databases from the ODP. The largest one being google. Google for the most part will even use the description directly from DMOZ.

 

True, there's a lot of categories that are completely dead and worthless so you're wasting you time submitting to them.

 

Sorry I've been out of my own thread for a while... Too busy getting infractions by responding to directory listing posts and watching ABDC...

I've noticed that a lot of categories have sites that are now dead, haven't had any updates in years and some that even direct to parked pages.

I'm still not sure if it's worthless though. I notice a lot of people that have sites with similar keywords to mine, in Google I'm tops but in Yahoo their sites are tops and mine is in the bottom, only difference is those are sites are in DMOZ???

I still think theres a definite advantage to being listed.

Also, the site I have in question is a top site in it's category, is definitely not made for adsense and is useful to a lot of people. I guess I should just be greatful for that

I just submitted my blog to dmoz. My blog is a week old. Haha, I wanna see what response I get. This is my blog by the way

Some categories are completely worthless, and i wouldn't "want" a listing in them due to the nature of the other sites listed in fear of being associated with a bad neighborhood. Other categories are great and i do actually find some useful sites listed, so the quality is a sliding scale depending on editor and category.

The true value of a DMOZ listing in terms of backlinks is not DMOZ itself, but the 100's of sites that syndicate the data which can bring some good exposure. If DMOZ wasn't syndicated i wouldn't bother suggesting any of my sites there, as it is now i only submit a few.

It's too frustrating seeing new domains that are just landing pages with Affiliate/Adsense as content being approved hand over fist while you wait years with hundreds of pages of unique material on your site being ignored.

I wouldn't worry about it evossman, if they don't want to do what's best for the directory or it's visitors there is not much you can do.

You have next to no content. DMOZ won't list a site like that. When you have a lot more unique content, then it may get considered. As it is now, it would just be deleted by the editor.

 

my opinion is forget dmoz
just get targeted traffic to your site that enough

 

Keep working on it, you never know i've been seeing sites with way less content then yours being listed.
