Although I must admit to be staggered by the size of some of these companies that depend on Google: http://www.canadait.com/cfm/index.cfm?It=106&Id=26146&Se=0
what an inflated news for a short thing. So Geosign was banned for adsense arbitrage or self clicks? can someone summarize? I think self clicks.
+1 wow such a long article and i didn't understood a bit after reading the first paragraph...the terms used are very standard and difficult to understand Could anyone please summarize it..?
I'll summerize: A record $160-million VC investment. A rich Web strategy. A quirky founder. For a few weeks last spring, Guelph, Ont.'s Geosign had it all. Then mighty Google stirred. And it was over
Interesting story. The moral of the story is...whether you think you're big or small, you're never going to be as big as google and they'll close you down if necessary. I like the bit: If I was making $20k a month I'd think I was a big-shot but Google would think I was still an ant.
Moral: It doesn´t matter if you are paying Google millions in ads... if it doesn´t agree with their TOS you are shut down in a blink. Good to see Google are happy to go after the big spenders who create loads of spam sites not just the small ones.
All he had to do was create a little bit of actual content for his sites and he could of stayed in business.
It seems to me that Google closed them to take their business. They were resellers of Google's products, sort of middlemen between Google and the advertisers. Google wants them out of the way so that it can take a higher percent of the advertising dollar. You get 0.05$ per click but Google gets 38$ per click. They want to keep it that way.
Another thing: they were running arbitrage between Google and Yahoo. So that is another and perhaps the main reason for why they were cosed.
Not self-clicks. Arbitrage between google searches and Yahoo ads. They bought keywords from google and forwarded them to pages filled with yahoo ads.
Tell that to the New York Times while they're cloaking. Or YouTube while they're cloaking. Or MatchMaker, Date.com, PerfectMatch.com, and Match.com while they use doorway pages for years at a time. If you're big enough to be a brand name, Google could give less of a rip what you do. Sometimes they'll ban a site to make a point, but it will *gasp* be re-instated a lot faster than any other re-inclusion request you'll ever see. In general, they're left alone.
this was the main thing IMO they didn't want their traffic being used to make yahoo stronger but its good, more keywords for us
is there any official statement from Google why they ban Geosign from what I observe google is very lenient in terms of banning?
