How to collect email addresses

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by ACrofford, Jun 23, 2008.

I would like to setup something to collect email addresses. Basically to download my free eBook they have to provide their email address. Something similar to http://lssacademy.com/.

I want to collect email addresses for now and once I have a good amount I will look into a place like AWeber to do a newsletter.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    AC

Buy established web directories. :) I have a couple, both have XX,XXX number of email addresses. I'd sell mine for a good offer and there are quite a few well established webdirectories for sale out there.
The only problem is that one of the directories is 2 year old and some email addresses are invalid. My estimate is that about 1/2 of the emails are invalid.
Ofcourse email addresses come as bonuses since the established ones make some good pocket change :)

Another email marketing spam thread? I don't care what they opted in for, it's spam and most email providers will mark your domain as spam permanently if you do it.

This isn't an email spam thread. I am offering an eBook that I have written in exchange for their email address. I plan on doing a newsletter once a month. I just want to collect the email addresses of people who want to download my eBook.

    Thanks,
    AC

Start using Aweber now on your site to collect the addresses and that way you will have a double opt in list.

Another vote for aweber, they're by far the best. I'm very happy with their service.

I suggest you get Aweber or Getresponse or your favorite company from the very beginning. Sometimes it's a hassle to transfer your list to one of these companies and if you do things right, your list should grow quickly. Do it right from the very beginning and invest in a reliable autoresponder. It will pay off!

The only way you collect email address is to get autoresponders like aweber and getresponse. But for people to give you their email you should put incentives in your squezze page or sales letter. Get aweber or getresponse, they are very good autoresponders.

All though Aweber is a great autoresponder, it does cost some money to use it. Therefore if you are not making any extra money, this just becomes another liability to your business. But, definitely go for it if you have the income to back this up. And the best of luck with building that list.

I think I am going to use AWeber.

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding in what I wanted to do. There obviously was since I received negative rep for being a spammer. All I wanted to do was find the best way to allow people so subscribe to my newsletter on my blog.

Maybe I am mistaken and this is spam.

For building a list of prospects offer them something of value through a squeeze page. There is double opt-in option and an unsubscribe option so there is no spam involved. After all Internet Marketers are doing the same thing with much success.

cynic. if people choose to provide an opt-in email address in exchange for a download then that's down to them. sites like Vertical Response allow sensible administration of bulk email, and the user can always unsubscribe.

to the thread starter: be sure to include a terms and conditions with your opt-in, so people know they're receiving newsletters.

Aweber is good but you can easily get your own script to mange it for free or get one made for a lot cheaper.

i can make you a simple script to get emails address if you wanted

Aweber can be a very good way to get emails but dose have a cost to pay every mouth

I had planned on making it very clear that they were subscribing to a newsletter. Don't want anyone subscribing to something they don't want.

    Go for getresponse.com.

Tried and tested with no hiccups.

Think of how or why you would respond to a survey.

If youre targeting people towards your own market, then you probably have some bait or teaser to offer them. Offer something of value to them, since youre creating your own newsletter, you can follow up on what your offering in your newsletter, and let people know that you will. That way they will be looking forward to getting the newsletter.

Getting input from them on what your newsletter should offer helps them feel like they have a part in it too. Aweber for my money does great output for learning responses.
