Saddam Hussein had al-Qaeda ties with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a leader of an Islamic group in northern Iraq called Ansar al-Islam and later renamed to al-Qaeda in Iraq.
*rolls eyes*. Saddam didn't control the Kurds. al Qaeda and all islamic terrorist groups wanted to kill Saddam because he was a tool of Western governments. The only tie Saddam had to abu musab, is that he wanted to kill him. By that logic, Bush is tied to Bin Laden, because bin laden crashed planes into America. DRRRRR I'm not sure why you're trying to tie Saddam to Al Qaeda. Is it really necessary? Saddam was a terrorist himself.
OMG! They allegedly knew where he was! Abu Musab al-Zarqawi And like always you know more than your intelligence agency.
I know its ridiculous, they need to feel that war is with al queda so they believe anything that may tie Saddam to al queda no matter had dis proven it is Saddam was strong man dictator not religious fanatic
The war in Iraq is about "democracy". The graduates from school of America should bring democracy to Iraq in form of torture and killing squads as they have done previously in those countries in south America which is controlled by USA.
... and most of the public wants us out of iraq... ... the majority of people didn't know as much about the reason for war in 2003 as they do now... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soohikNdbWs at about 0:22
i think some people have great difficulty in admitting they were wrong and duped, so they just cling to any rationale at this point
Saddam paid Hamas suicide bomber's families $25,000. Hamas is also a religious extremist terrorist group. Ansar al-Islam was located in Northen Iraq in the no man's land between the Kurds and Iraq controlled terrotity. Abu Musab was in Baghdad on numerious occassions to coordinate bombings in Jordan.
so what? so have tons of other assholes, including saudis does that justify spending a trillion dollars, killing 4k soldiers and wounding another 25k? was hamas behind 911? in africa there has been people committing mass genocides and we don't give a crap, but someone gives some money to someone who killed some Israelis, we should invade? when saddam was our ally people from government visited him while he gased the kurds with helicopters we sold him, so what? how does any of that justify the war and occupation? you just can't admit you were totally hoodwinked into supporting the war can you?
Well that's what the French said when Hitler rolled into the Rhineland. The war and occupation are justified because the US only had an armistice with Iraq after Gulf War I. Under Bill Clinton the US fought Gulf War II, the 'No Fly War'. Guld War III is a continuation of the same conflict that was started by Saddam when he invaded Kiuwait.
Oh geezus man, why does everyone go straight to Hitler? Hitler had an air force, a navy, was part of an Axis. Saddam was isolated, his army and economy was diminished, surrounded by enemies in Turkey, Iran and he was relatively impotent. You need to read my Churchill/Hitler thread from this morning. It will keep your Islamophobia in check. You could say, it's all a continuation of Saddam being a CIA agent.
In 1936 Hitler was isloated and weak. The Italians did not want Hitler to invade Austria and the Czech forces were also powerful. Hitler's panzer armies were a joke armed with mark I and mark II (PzKpfw I or II) light training tanks with a 20mm gun. France had over 1000 heavy Souma and Charron tanks. The Charron had a 47mm and 75mm gun. France also had over 10,000 artillery peaces and one of the largest armies in the world. The czech army had the PzKpfw 35(t) which was better tank than what the german army had at the time. Czech tanks equiped Rommel's panzer division in it's march to the English Channel and Dunkirk. During 1940-1941 the czech PzKpfw 38(t) formed 25% of the total German tank force, and its importance was therefore considerable, the vehicle being superior in hitting power to either the PzKpfw I or II.
If you don't respond to my Hitler/Churchill thread I am gunna be pissed! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=903517 Haha, some loser gave it one star!
What part of "respond to my thread" did you not understand? Are you one of these 1 star raters? I'm not feeling the love Bogart.
I took a look at the thread but I had to get the Churchill comment in here because matter of factly Churchill was on holiday in Spain when the Germans rolled into the Rhineland. I guess he didn't see it coming. By the time Churchill returned to England the country was already divided on taking action on Germany. Spain must have still been stable at that point. In effect the Rhineland was a catalyst for German and Italian intervention in Spain. The Germans flew Franco and his forces from Spanish Morocco using Junker transport planes after some Spanish generals announced a coup against the elected Socialist government on July 18, 1936.
People seem to forgot the fact that Saddam started it with his invasion of Kuwait and he perpetuated it by not complying for like 13 years.
Kuwait was slant drilling into Iraqi oilfields. I'm not saying that justifies invasion, but Iraq did try to address it peacefully first. Kuwait knew that we would intervene so they just carried on. If someone violated our natural resources that way, you can bet we would attack them.
Besides the slant drilling issue, Saddam Hussein was being crushed by debt supporting his 1 million man army. Seizing Kuwait would have made him a regional superpower as well as solved his debt problem.
It wasn't just a dispute over oil rights, the Iraqi army went into hospitals and took equipment and supplies from sick and dying people.
