Got a PR1

    Maybe the reason are longtime domain registered and it's in the search engines database.

    I can't believe it, that without doing anything, your site can gain pr, if it so happened, it would lose that pr again. that will not be for a long time period....

    It could be fake pr. Add some content immediately into into the site, before you lose that pr. It is usually very difficult to get that pr.

    Not very difficult.
    But fake PR is a domain redirected to a domain that does have PR, where the domain being redirected takes on the PR of the one that really has it.
    So if his domain isn't redirecting, it is isn't fake.

    Most likely, I'd say it's just domain age. A previously registered domain that was already on G's radar. There are articles from 2003 with PR4 or so that have no backlinks other than maybe one from their own domain.
