    Hi,

    I've been reading about the importance of having a keyword domain name as part of your stategy in acquiring high SE rankings.

    Now does that keyword domain have to be dot com? Could a dot tv achieve the same results?

    Thanks in advance!

    There are lots of domains out there that are not .com that have excellent SE rankings.

    .com seems to be good for type in traffic though... it is the most commonly used / remembered extension

    Sometimes country extensions work well if you are targeting a specific country.

    Any extension is limitless. .com is just a preference since it is the one that everybody remembers.

    It is not always .com necessary to rank high on SEs but rather on proper optimization and good reputation of a site...

    Depends on your effort on optimizing your domain it whether .net or .org it's up to you.. Following the correct and good seo optimization will do...

    No , I think the importance of extensions are lesser than before. If you can't find .com either .net or .org are just fine for SEO , but for domain trading .com is a must.

    No, .com is just the most widely used tld and is better for the end user.

    Defiantly domain extension can make different in your targeted visitors if I want to promote my site in UK then I'll go with www.mydomain.co.uk if my target is all over the world then I'll go with www.mydomain.com

    Its all about the SEO utilized, not the tld. I'm sure there are plenty of top level .orgs as well as the .coms. Think of how many international non-profits there are. Look up some of their search ratings and PRs and I'm sure you'll see that you can do anything with a .org, whcih means a .net should be just as usable.

    For getting a good rank in search engines its the quality and relevancy of the backlinks that you get from the authority sites(edu, org, gov) that matters and with time you gain the much important trust rank along with proper placement of keywords (targeted keyword) in the title that helps your site garner top rankings in the search engines. Keyword rich domain have some impact on serps as you see the url gets bold in the results page for search term if found in the URL but the impact is nominal. As far as extension are concerned .com is preferred over other exts as now days most of use ( ctrl + enter) after typing the domain name in the browser to save time other than that i don't find any other reason why you cannot get a .net site or site with any other extensions to rank higher than a .com site in the search engines.

    Thanks

    .com extension is specifically for US domain but this is not a fact that websites having .com extension can only have good rank in search engines, there are so many websites with different extensions like .info, .net.... come in top ranking of search engines. Ranking only depends on other factors like relevant and thematic backlinks, keyword density and other seo factors....

    Answer to your question::
    A big NO
    TLDs doesn't matter if your site is rich in content, updated regularly and has a good list of relevant backlinks
