Such a statement is entirely dependent on the client and link builder's skill. :p If you are referencing natural backlinks, even that would be open to debate.

BTW, nofollow links do show up in backlink checks at Google Webmaster Tools.

Point taken. I'll retract that statement.

Instead, I'll say that often many of the 'backlinks' that show up Yahoo are not considered in the calculation of google PR, and therefore are not displayed in the google 'Link:' command.

I'm not seeing any nofollow links in Webmaster Central. Are you also seeing them in the info command? If so, can you provide a link?

    False.

This is a very common misconception. I can give you a bunch of examples when I get home. on my way out the door for now, though.

Just remember, those aren't necessarily backlinks.

Unfortunately, that's not the same thing. if you use a space after the link:, then it is just searching the web for two different key phrases, "link:" and "www.yoursite.com". You'll get almost the exact same result as if you just search for "www.yoursite.com".

selectsplat, I only check Google backlinks in Google Webmaster Tools. I don't spend much time doing backlink lookups at Google Search because its so incomplete.

I'll PM you the URL to a screenshot I just did. Check any of the links on the page and you will see they are all listed in Google Webmaster Tools but are nofollow links.

it's like you wanna know a person, you got lots of reference on him.
Question: Will you consider all of the references? or just few important one.

Real people behind google, real people has real thinking.

I don't think there's much to the argument that google only shows the strong links after the link command. I have plenty of strong links to some of my websites and google doesn't show them. I agree with the subset analysis given above.

According to my google webmaster tools one of my sites have a total of 560 links (800 according to yahoo) and when I use the link:site I always get 0 , but I think this is been discussed many times that's why people tend to search for backlinks in yahoo ..

    Interesting.

I don't think the 'link:' command shows any nofollow links though.
