How do I market a satire/blog site well?

    I have a personal journal/satire/art blog over at http://www.deepsarcasm.com

As of now I've been getting 25-50 uniques a day, which imo is just pathetic.

Can anyone kindly advise as to how to market my blog?

    Thanks in advance, all.

P.S.: I don't want to use misleading methods, such as spamming craigslist.

I would suggest trying to market it to teens, no? You could post the link up on forums, or add it to your signature on forums where people would enjoy that type of content. You could also advertise it though MySpace bulletins, which isn't really spam if you are just asking people to check out your site. Along with that, bookmark your site to del.icio.us, and submit it to digg, reddit, stumbleupon, etc etc. Hope this helps.

Thanks, will try those methods. Have been trying to use digg but haven't got enough good friends to make a story get where it needs to be...StumbleUpon works good though.

Maybe I should try and develop a presence on:

    a) Twitter
    b) Digg
    c) Relevant forums

Will try all of that out and post updates as to how it goes.

Am only just getting good at finding digg worthy stories, though not using them myself (link - could make a great story if well written).

Thanks for the suggestions, + rep :)

I use Twitter for a lot of my marketing. I have a ton of followers, so I just post up links to my newest blog posts and get some nice traffic from that.

I run justrage.com which is pretty simular to what your trying to do. The site is pretty old (6-7 years) and is a "well known" website which is what most of the draw to the site comes from. I have never done any marketing with the site and even lost nearly all my backlinks (upgraded the software that I use which handled URL's differently) and still get a pretty good flow of new/existing members visiting.

Your best bet is to pick a nitch that you want to go after. justrage is mostly used by teenagers and wives who hate their husbands. A word of advice is if you allow people to post stories make sure you dont post peoples names/business names if you don't want to deal with C&D orders. I allow them simply because I get great enjoyment from cease and desist orders ;)

Heh...C&D orders don't usually work on world citizens, unless someone is really - and I mean really desperate.

I'm not sure whether I'd like anyone to be able to write stuff, maybe get some guest bloggers once in a while?

Post in all kinds of social networks. Funny stuff is always popular and you can benefit from the word-of-mouth once you hit the right guy with the right joke.

If you are technical - make a facebook app and let others do the job.

Personally, I think its really a blend of content and knowing the right (or getting noticed by) connections in the publishing world. I think this makes sense in the light of the experience of indexed.blogspot.com.

P.S. So yes thats a dead link. Seems peons cant post live links yet.

Don't try putting that on digg, they only like tech news and lolcats.

o I will also warn you about what content you have on the blog as well. justrage was banned from adsense because there was "hate" posts on the site. There was a very popular thread called f#uck islam and I guess enough people complained to get adsense removed. If your planning on making money off the site just make sure to watch what content you have displayed.

    Thanks for the tip!

I'd better put a satire disclaimer page up.
