Making a Made For AdSense Type List

I copied an old MFA list for my Competitive Ad Filter list from an old thread on DP and some of the 200 sites are no longer active.

So making a new one the hard way, looking at ads on my sites and blocking the ones that make no sense one at a time. Like dating ads on a jokes site!

I see ads to places like EBay with ads like-

    Momma Jokes
Fantastic low prices here. Feed your passion on eBay.co.uk.
    www.ebay.co.uk

This is one of those auto generated ads, is there any good reason not to block a site like ebay.co.uk? (and the com)

I'm going to assume a place like EBay aren't going to be paying a great deal for an ad like this one considering how much traffic they get anyway.

If I'm right to block this are there any other obvious places to block? Think big companies that are going to bid on low price ads.

I take it there's no way to know for sure if an advertiser is a low cost advertiser? So for the real MFA sites it's going to be about looking at the sites content, in particular they have to run AdSense.

Actually that's a good idea, block those sites that just throw up random ads, as long as you know your niche(s) have plenty of advertisers.

some weeks ago i tested my Adsense Competitive Ad Filter and my revenues gone down, it`s because you never know which ads pays good and which is bad for you.
Yes, it could be helpful to select ads manually, but it takes a lot of time and tomorrow you receive other MFA ads on your site, because MFA sites create every day and you can not monitor this process, it`s not so easy at all!

Decided to block them and see what happens, so far got-

    ebay.co.uk
    ebay.com
    shopper.com

Also blocked winfreeprizes.com as seen it on a couple of my sites and think it's one of those ads that will show for all sorts of low cost phrases.

Looking for more general sites to block?

Thanks for sharing, but I stopped using the list year ago.

It's up to Google, we can't fight against MFA.

That's the same list I found at DP, checked half a dozen or so of the sites and only one was still live which is why I'm creating my own.

I had a big jump in CTR (it doubled) and eCPM for one of my popular sites (5-6K impressions a day) after adding this list to my filter, but (and it's a big but) I also made other changes recently including removing borders from ad units and (on the same day I added the list) pushing my sidebar ad unit above the fold on the left menu (I have a feeling this last change made a BIG part of the improvement as meant had 2 ads above the fold in hot click areas).

On my other sites I've seen a small improvement in CTR and eCPM, so probably helped a little. I can see the benefit of removing some sites, if I'm right ebay etc... are low paying advertisers removing advertisers like them should make a difference and because ebay is unlikely to go bust :) the list will work long term.

I have to agree with BigOne... There is no way in hell we can fight MFAs! There's too many of them and Google only allow us to filter a handful.

We are at their mercy, just have to face the fact. :)

I think you are right, The lists that get made and posted are usually niche specific. and unless you see them websites advertising on your site then there is no point.. (apart from what SEO-Expert has already said about ebay etc)
I usually look through the list and only apply a filter to sites that are in my niche, and of course ebay, shopping etc.

    Good points there.
As for checking sites.. I just had a thought and gave it a try, I copied and pasted the first 100 sites in that list into a multi site PR checker, and checked the PR of the sites, I noticed that a quite a few of them showed a N/A status, which I assume means they have been abandoned to some degree. But that may change after the next update, so probably not a very accurate way to determine if the site is still running.

Also I use McAfee SiteAdvisor (a plug in for IE and FF) that shows if a site has been flagged as a bad site in search results, (malware, spyware etc)
and sometimes I will search the domain of a suspect ad, (Like the ones that say "let me scan your PC for registry errors blah blah".. ) and if it shows up as a bad site, I filter that to..
    regcure.com
    reghelper.com
    registrycleanerreview.org
    errordoctor.com
the above show up as bad.. I ad them to protect my visitors.

    Cheers
