Does craigslist work

    hi all

i have posted a few adverts with craigslist, i have been checking my traffic and i have to say that i have not seen the boost in taffic that much. Now maybe it could be me the way that i placed the ad. but i have even done it with an image and still no joy..... i was thinking should i just pay for traffic would that be the best bet for me..

i have read many many threads here at dp about this list and people say that they have done great with it so the question that i must ask is how did you post your ad? what did you do to get the edge.

I'm not familiar with the specifics of advertising on CL..but, are you targeting the right people with your ad? Is it clickable?

as for paying for traffic...huge numbers of traffic really don't help much (well, they might in some niches) you should concentrate on getting quality traffic not just huge numbers

First question I would ask is did your ad go through? It may show up in your account but is it live? Assuming it is, then it could depend on a lot of things. What section did you post in? Was the ad flagged? What time did you post it? Was it spammy looking or? What were you promoting? If it is your first time posting on Craigslist or you have only done a few ads, then you may need just to improve your posting method. Craigslist ins't a magic bullet. You won't suddenly generate a huge flood of traffic just by posting a few ads and make millions of dollars. I know you aren't expecting this, but what I am just trying to say is that Craigslist can be a place for good targetted traffic if you take the time and work at it.

I believe craigslist can be a good solution if you are offering a service or seeking for something specific, but I don't believe this could be the best solution driving traffic to your site.

Depends Trusted Writer. I posted ads yesterday with a link to my site and had 20 people sign up to my opt-in list. Craigslist can be useful for many things.

I use Craigslist with some success. You have to post in the right way, or you will be flagged. I target high populated areas, but when you put in the location, it must be in the same area as the post. Also, I use the services section, but now you have to have your phone number varified before you can post. There sre 2 other sites like Cl, but don't have the amount of traffic yet.
    They are: kijiji.com and backpage.com

I've heard it working for some webmasters, but i've never been able to get it working for me. Then again, I haven't tried that hard.

it works, u have to pump out enough ads in order to increase u traffic. more ads leads to more stickable ads which leads to more traffic.. as always the internet is a numbers game, whatever u do that brings in traffic, do a LOT of it and u will be good

I don't think there is any secret to it. You just need to post enough ads as someone mentioned above and make sure your ads dont look like spam. You could direct them directly to a sales page or what I believe is better is sending them to a squeeze page where they opt-in for something free, you collect their email address and then can sell to them later on. If you stick with it you should be able to get some good traffic and leads.

I will 2nd badd and creztor on the numbers comment. The more ads that go up, the more chance you have of reaching someone...

It works, just create a couple of gmail accounts and blast away in the appropriate categories.

Ehh... I thought Craiglist no longer allowed ads to have outgoing links. How did Creztor got that 20 new subscribers for his opt-in list?
