Madam you can have the explanation for this on many sites.
If you go to smartpagerank.com there you will see all the details of your site and then
below that you will see something like this:
The site has (say some 300K) alexa ranking. And the number of visitors for this alexa rank ranges for -- to --
Hope you got your answer !

alexa is only good in very general terms- too easy to manipulate if you have lots of users with the toolbar installed and most people outside the US have never heard of it. Not to say it is not useful, but it's not infallable either

The Alexa manipulation aside, it really depends on the industry of your website. If you target webmasters or technical people you get much higher alexa rank because more webmasters use the Alexa toolbar. My experience is that it takes about 7 or 8 times more traffic to get the same Alexa rank on a non-webmaster themed site.

So it would take about 500 hits a day on a webmaster related site to get an Alexa 100000. It would take 3500 to 4000 hits to get the same 100000 rating on a non-webaster related site.

Hi, Alexa ranking is not only basing on the visits, it also basing on the pageviews and so on.

I attach Alexa Top 100 sites list with full detail traffic information here.
You can also free to download it from: http://www.livelybrowser.com/topsiteslist/index.html#detail

I have not idea how Alexa ranks work, but I know they are very temperamental.

Sometimes your site is there sometimes not and the worst is that being associated to archive.org, if your site is not there, archive.org doesn't crawl your site, which might be good for some people but for some others not.

Alexa ranking is only based on the Alexa Toolbar. Even you got millions of visitor daily if none of them have Alexa Toolbar installed your ranking will not change.

Hi ... mostly to reiterate what others posted. Alexa takes all tool bar traffic and using, a fairly simple algorithm, extrapolates that whole web. If you have a lot of visitors in USA and Japan, Alexa will be great.Otherwise, it's a struggle. There are a few ticks, that work for a while, but not for ever. Start by ensuring you have the Alexa Tool Bar installed on all your sites, and surf around each, at lot, each day. This will help. Hope this helps and good luck.

If you want to estimate what your Alexa rank means, pick some sites that have similar Alexa ranking to yours. Pick only the sites that have some U.S. traffic - you will find this, when you click your browser's Alexa toolbar, it will get you to the site's Alexa traffic details page; scroll down and you will find a small chart with percentage of U.S. visitors.

Don't pick sites that mostly have Asian traffic as this will not be precise.

Now go to Quantcast.com and explore these sites. Quantcast will tell you the approximate number of visitors a certain site gets.

Now, if Alexa rank of a site is 1,000,000 and it has 80% U.S. visitors and it's Quantcast number is 5000 U.S. visitors per month, you will find that this site gets APPROXIMATELY (100 x 5000) / 80 = 6250 visitors per month.

However, I must warn that Alexa and even Quantcast are sometimes FAR from the real figures. So these services are only to be used as guidelines!

nice review, very good comment. Thumbs up.
additional info, Alexa rank most times doesn't reflects a sites true ranking but its still cool to have them especially when your selling your website or wanna boast with your friends.:p:D
