I have been developing links on quality, pertinent sites for some time now. And according to backlink checkers have in excess of 1,000 back links to my website. My work has become evident as I have jumped to the first page of Google for a few of my targeted keywords. My problem, however, is that I have not seen any improvements in Yahoo whatsoever . . . I know the ranking algorithm is different for Yahoo as opposed to Google, but I assumed link building would help move you up in Yahoo (at least a little bit). I did some research and found a few articles that stated Yahoo is dominated by spammy sites because of their algorithms poor quality. So, I guess my questions break down as follows: How do you combat spammy sites on Yahoo? With so many backlinks and a high ranking on Google, why hasn't Yahoo shown any SERP changes? What are a few other things that can be done to improve SERPS for Yahoo?
Well, many people do some tricky things when it comes to this. With the robots.txt file people actually create two different web pages for each web page on their site. They create one for Google and one for Yahoo!, then via the robots.txt they block each page accordingly to the search engine they don't want it indexed by. I actually do this with one website and it works wonders
Wouldn't this kind of thing be looked down upon by Google/Yahoo? And if they found out, aren't you risking penalization in the SERPS?
Why would it be looked down upon? Same content, just optimized for different search engines to be indexed properly, your not gaming them.
Do some research into on-page optimization for each one, their isn't enough time or character allowment in one thread to go over it all. I gave you a solution, now you need to research the difference for on-page factors.
