Pay for inclusion? Would love to hear more on this subject so feel free to write a better constructed post or PM. Out of interest, do you have your own directory or do you just work for Dmoz? Thanks Back on subject, maybe the $249 listing fees cover the rent for their plush offices. LOL.
Sure. As I told my dear friend Jamie Jim Jam the other day, I am exceedingly proud that I am not associated with these sham pay for inclusion directories. You don't need to sell fake Rolex watches to the street to have a valid opinion on Rolex watches.
I have to ask this nebuchadrezzar, have you been paid to come onto threads to deliberately try and solicit a response by calling me names and constantly flame? Leave it out, its getting boring.
I certainly do not think it is worth it. I had a link to one of my sites at the top of a category page for 3 months and I got exactly "0" visitors from that link.
I am not pretending anything. When I first started out I was one of those who thought that PR was really important. Now I think it is not so important and traffic is what I want for my websites. Even if someone did want to get a PR5 or PR6 link I think 249.00 is way too much to pay for that - just my opinion. I cancelled my link in BOTW because I am focused on traffic
I wasn't aiming at you specifically, more directory owners in general. I completely agree that $250 is better spent in many other ways.
Its easy to be cynical, I don't blame many if I'm honest, lets see if we can't put that right though.
Just to clear (again Jamie) I have nothing particular against you and your directory, and I hold you in the highest regard. It is the pay for inclusion snake oil merchants who I hold in contempt and I make no apologies for any comments I direct towards them.
Thanks now I get your point. I thought at first it might be easy for me to get that $250 back, even with 1 or 2 years, it's still worth it. Maybe you are right.
Then refrain from the unnecessary name-calling as it does you no favours as a critic. What you don't see is that people like me accept your entitled to your opinions, I don't think for a second you should tar all with the same brush, and for certain your miles away from where the directory I have interests is going, we actually give more free listings than we do charge for reviewing so we're certainly not in it solely for the money although that is a nice thing to see, I'd be lying if I said otherwise. Doing homework rather than looking at things from first perceptions would help you understand that although your generalizations are spot on, these so called 'networks' of directories are a perfect example of what you talk of, there are some of us that have a genuine intention to provide a service. If people who have a hundred directories all containing pretty much the same thing were to try and defend themselves against your comments then I'd back you 100%, but notice they don't. I happen to agree on a lot of what you say but not all of it. So as not to hi-jack this thread as its about BOTW, please either post a new thread or p.m me, I'd be happy to tell you why Cantufind is different from the many others. You may not accept what I say but at least you'd be making your comments based on knowledge and not assumption as your doing now.
Yell.com taking your money and not delivering, fairly predictable result from the Yell group. I'm a little shocked that you thought your site will be the only to appear as an enhanced entry. Others likely got the same pitch and result - wasn't a call centre in India was it? I got the same treatment Bloody 2000k Jeeze! Yell.com That's awful Spider, but you're not alone in your sorrows.
Thankfully it wasn't me that dealt with it - so I can't be blamed for throwing money at absolutely nothing. Ironically enough it was the boss, who apparently controls my spending haha. It was an English guy if I remember correctly, whom spoke with an English accent and most probably wasn't in Mumbai or nearby. The entire purpose was that we were being sold the sole marketing spots on those categories, I assume that's why the boss went with it - but in the end, as expected, they screwed us over. Quite funny, really
Okay, so what time-frame will your directory be 100% filled by, as I'd actually like to see that. I've yet to see a full directory yet, and I'm very serious in that comment. Bear in mind that I'm giving you 1 chance to live up to your promise that this directory makes a difference. Personally, I doubt you can get this filled with at least an extra 2000 businesses before 2009. But I would like to see that so the challenge from EK is on.......
I've already said I'm not going to hi-jack someone else's thread, I'd be grateful if you'd do the same. If you wish to post a challenge do so on another thread, I may just take you up on it, we could even make it public and you put up some cash for charity if you lose which you will.
Not sure by what you mean with the 100% filled. A directory can always hold more resources. If your meaning no empty categories - well there definitely are directories like that.
Of course there are and even with a million links it would be a good idea to have new categories to fill. I'm not going to jump this thread so will post on our blog and here on another thread about the charity chase.
