    I pretty much agree that there really aren't any secrets. There is hard work and persistence.

    If there are any secrets - they are going to remain secrets. I know that if I really knew something that worked I would keep it close to the vest.

    You can learn how to be more effective but I don't think there is a magic bullet.

    Imo, it's just quality content. Good content is a magnet for good backlinks, and backlinks won't really help if your content sucks, since you will only be getting the links from other sucky websites.

    I agree with content and links, but I am not convinced about fresh content. Everywhere we are told "Google loves fresh content" but in reality many high ranking sites are those which have remained static for years.
