Dell simply sucks

I am a long time customer of Dell - all the equipment in the office is Dell. What I got this month is simply unbelievable. I ordered a small cheap laptop (Inspiron) for the office on the 7th this month. I contacted sales reps before that and they said it's due to be shipped within 7 days tops. I contacted them on the 14th again because I saw the estimated shipping date was 15th (even though the sales rep ensured me that it's going to be the 14th).
To my surprise the date was 15th of July. No additional information on the delay, just a sorry ass excuse as "industry wide battery shortage". I was considering ordering 2 XPS systems next month but that got me thinking - Why on earth would I take b.s. from a corporation that obviously lies to customers and why would I give them any of my business? I have already canceled the order but the laptop was something that I needed urgently.
So DPers if you consider ordering anything from Dell think twice.

Cant you buy DELL via normal shops now? Not just dell.com.

That's the thing - we've always used dell.com - not the normal shops because they offer better deals. Lying to me however has put me away from them forever. Just finished chatting with a fellow from their live chat team - he ensured me that if I am to order a new system today it will be shipped before or on the shipping date on the screen - when I confronted him about the delay in the previous order I got the "battery shortage" story again. When I called to cancel the person had no such information. What a bunch of BS.

Well, I've never been a fan of dell in terms of support. However, they do have one strong set of laptops meant for business - the Vostro line.

It's just like an Inspiron, except it's more rugged, and is all black. In fact, that's the one I'm using right now (a vostro 1500).

I mean, I've dropped this thing trice from about a desks height, and the only damage is physical, and only one little corner on the (extended) battery is just a little chipped off. I just ordered a new battery, though. That's it, no more damage!

I know other people who have vostros and we all share they same thought - they're robust!

I love the laptops I hate being lied to. We'll just start using something else and see how it goes. Plenty of competition out there - HP, Toshiba etc.

Dell's ability to sell cheap was that they sell direct to consumers via Internet and phone and they do not have resellers or shops. Though if you have a computer exhibition, normally they have a booth and it is cash and carry.

i love dell and there customer service. Did you upgrade your laptop or something cause when that happens they have to rebuild it to your customization. I ordered a regular one from them and the estimated time of delivery was 2 weeks but i got it in 4 days. plus dell have great computers IMO

That's the thing - it was pre-built - ready to go laptop. Nothing customized nothing changed. Even picked the black color for faster shipping. I love the brand but if you're ever to lie to me (twice) and not deliver that's going to get you in trouble big time.

HP and toshiba are more fragile than the Mona Lisa... let an hp drop from 1 inches and the screen breaks.

Not actually, for such companies, they do have the typical industry tests such as drop test etc. Not that fragile as what you have mentioned. In fact I would feel HP is quite robust.

I've had some good experience with HP, Compaq rings a good bell, Asus are OK, IBM, Fujitsu, one of these should do.

Well, personally, all I like about HP is the design. afterwards, they're just too fragile for me. I travel a lot, so if a little bump breaks my laptop, then I have to stay away from it.

Maybe true for some Toshiba's but not all. Believe me, I've dropped my Satellite a few times as well as slam the LCD on the floor. This thing still runs like I've just purchased it (2-years old) and the only thing that has had the chance to kill it has been dust clogging the fan.

@maiahost - I doubt that they intentionally lied to you, but rather gave false information. The battery shortage which they say has caused the delay, is true.

You may want to try Mitac laptops, from what I heard, theirs are industry standard laptops capable of withstanding more wear and tear than the normal consumer laptops.

Sad to hear you had a problem with Dell. They have always been good to me for business, and in a pinch a Dell rep in the mall gave me a free toner cartridge so payroll checks could be printed.

And no, it was not my payroll. :) I always have extra ink and toner on hand...

Not sure about you but I love dell. I bought everything from Dell. One of my laptop motherboard got defected so I just give them a call and they send me a box to my house the next day so I can ship to their repair center. It was fix and return within 3 days. I got my motherboard replace within 1 week. That is pretty good. They also keep contacting me to let me up to date with the laptop status.

Buy dell products you want from nearest store and not from dell.com... big companies always sucked retail customers... I am a verizon tech support and when customers needs new modem, I simply told them to buy modem from bestbuy and not from our sales dept...LOL...

Y problem lies with sales representative u talked to he might not have taken advice of authority or it would be dell.com policy...don't go for everything OL at least direct sales site of the company.
