At risk of having yet ANOTHER thread booted off the Google gorum...

What does it take to have a siteranked high in Google? Some say backlinks, and tags don't matter anymore, some say content. What's the latest and best?

Backlinks are certainly essential and probably the most important factor.

However, first you need to have unique relevant content and properly On Page optimized pages. Without content, even the best backlinks won't help you get to the top ;) Remember that Content is king - I don't know where I heard this but I really like it - furthermore it's a very truthful statement.

Moreover, you need to update your site often.

There are of course many other factors that can influence your rankings... All of them has been discussed over and over here at Digital Point. Just use a search feature and you might find some useful threads.

As has been said - Hard work - start by going through the previous threads on this forum and making your own judgement on the validity of the answers.

Asking a similar question will get similar answers and no-one will have learnt anything.

SEO is a long term process and its time consuming.

The best and only two important factor to rank in Google are:
    1- Content - while it's the king
    2- Inbound Links - the queen :)

When people tell you that content is 'king' and is the #1 most important thing they are telling you the truth. Yes, backlinks are also very important, but guess what? If your website is made up of high quality, interesting content your backlinks will grow naturally as other websites will link to you on their own.

It is not my intention here to say that backlinks arent important, they certainly are, but real informative content that people actually want to read is more important.
