Check out the new post at thenetfool.com. Think it works? I tried it... then again I'm new to directories... so we'll see I guess. I hope this helps you guys!
http://www.thenetfool.com/free-guaranteed-yahoo-directory-listing/ - direct link. I really doubt this works now, read about it a few months back.
Simple answer: Won't work. Any 'cheap' guaranteed listing services are using methods involving fraud and your site will be blacklisted by Yahoo. Now, I'll guarantee that.
Yes, I paid freelink4u $25 up front for a "guaranteed" listing in a category of my choice. A further $25 was to be paid after it appeared in the category I selected. It was approved week commencing Monday 3rd June, I was on holiday from the end of that week, came back yesterday to find it was no longer listed. Contacted Yahoo and they confirmed the payment made had been charged back by the credit card company for fraudulent use, presumably it had been stolen. Yahoo have now blacklisted our site, regardless if we pay the full $299 to them or not.
Hey man, that's a nice post! Yes, this method still works but now that the cat is out of the bag dont expect it to last forever...
I get some of that at Skaffe and WoW. I always contact the website owner now not just the card holder. Normally the deal is the website owner hired a submission service for placement in all the major directories at a discount rate. The submission service is non-US based and are using a stolen credit card for the submissions. The website owner gets banned by many directories and is out the money they paid for the submission services.
Man the lengths people go to in order to scam someone out of a buck or two. Thanks for the info stoner3221 and spider-man
Even after you posted the warning spider-man some idiots will still think it works. Ain't there no sense around.?
Just to clarify my comments about getting a free Yahoo directory listing refer to the OP's (Biztone) post. What happened to Spider Man and Stoner is absolutely horrible. Jim's post at thenetfool.com informs his readers on how to get a free listing in Yahoo Directory. It's a good post and still works. However I will say nothing is "guaranteed" in life except death and taxes...
Haha, hey thanks guys! Cool to see a post featuring one of my ramblings get some notice here. I'm not trying to take all of the credit though, I actually heard about it here on DigitalPoint. I did give the proper citation at the end of the post, so you can thank the guy I got it from... though he most likely didn't come up with it either. I'm just here to lay out some simple instructions to hopefully help the uninformed get an edge on competition
I paid that same guy $50 and my url was never listed! I now have a paypal claim against him. I see he is now banned by DP. Argh!
Ouch! I wish I had posted this earlier. This is precisely the reason I decided to get this out in the open. People are ripping you off and it is just plain dirty.
This topic is an old wives tale. I first heard of this technique almost two years ago and it was proven back then that it doesn't work. Geez, leave it to the noobs to keep beating this dead horse. Do not try this unless you want to risk your Yahoo SERPs because most likely your site will only end up banned by Yahoo. Besides, ethics are an important part of being a webmaster and if you look for shortcuts and rules to bend, you're the one who will suffer in the long run for cheating. Cheating=Bad Karma.
