    WHY EVERY ONE HANGING ON G P R ??????? HAVE A LOOK

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).

The name PageRank is a trademark of Google. The PageRank process has been patented (U.S. Patent 6,285,999 ). The patent is not assigned to Google but to Stanford University.

Pagerank is important to show relevance of a site, it's like a backlink meter, the more different IP's the better the rank. I think it's a wonderful tool to distinguish between sites with less content and rank and sites that have useful information. Although google does not update it's Pagerank as often as I'd like, it still affects a websites value.

    ...Just my 2 cents....

PR and actual search engine rank are two different things. They are related, but still distinct.

Either way its not that good as a lot of people rely on it when traffic is much better.

I think how your site ranks on the SERPS listings & Alexa traffic score is a more effective way to judge how popular a site is but it seems PR is the dominant means all SEO gurus seem to harp on about. I know sites with a PR7 getting hammered by sites of PR3 in terms of revenue and actual visitors.

So is Matt Damon, but HE'S the sex symbol for normal humans, so there must be a connection between hyped up crap and sex symbolism.

We do not have any better parameter to simply describe a website. PR just a number, if one day we have a new number call DPR and can measure a site good or bad easily, we will quickly give PR up and talk about DPR. :)
