Thank you in advance ! I have a subdirectory site done as a test site for a certain script. Now has a PR2 (!). I get 50-60 uniques from google search. I have one very popular keyword that puts me on the first page 3rd or 4th position (!!) but only on searches on google.ca, on google.com I am not even in the first 50 for the same keyword. Domain is .com . Please explain what is going on. what can I do to rank as good in google.com?? What is the explanation for such a great discrepancy in SERP ? The keyword is general, is not regional is not language related. Thanx again
Google has many datacenters that return slightly different results. You can compare them by cblocks here: http://www.searchenginegenie.com/data/index.htm hope that helps, Nigel
actually no one know the real basis/algo of google, all was theoretical and base from experience with google. one thing iam sure.. they love quality.. they hate spam..
did u set any geo choose on ur google webmaster account for that site? aslo might u got a hight keyword density for .ca or canada so thats why u apper on google.ca well those are guess and the true reason will be up to google choose
Three primary things may determine the results sets you see for any particular query. They include the search engine data center you hit, the location of your computer and if you have personalization preference turned on. Data Centers: Depending on the search engine, especially Google, you may hit a data center that has a different set of indexed pages or a slightly different algorithm. Both have an effect on the search results you see. Google has multiple data centers in order to help return you a quicker response and because it enables them to roll out different indexes and algorithms slowly and to select users. As you can imagine, it will affect the result sets you see. Geographic Location: Some times, Google tailors the results to your location. So if you are in London, Google may show you results that are more relevant to a person in London. How? They may show more results from .co.uk domains, or from servers hosted in the area or sites that have the language. Personalization: With most search engines now, you can now sign in, and enable personalization. That means the search engines look at your search history and other preferences and tailor the results specifically for you. As you can imagine, this will have an impact on the results you see for a particular query. http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060525-093214 http://www.seobook.com/archives/001676.shtml
Google.com and Google.ca are different sites. Google.ca is a Canadian serach engine and gives preference to Canadian sites. If you want to do well you'll either need to get a .ca domain or get hosting with an IP location in Canada
The keyword is general, food related,is not a Canadian dish, however, 95% of the vistors are from Canada because the keyword ranks 3rd or 4th if you search with google.ca. I did not set any geographic target, and to tell the truth, I am afraid to change anything, I even stopped adding content lately, as the site gets spidered regularly and apparently the bot likes what it sees. I know that fresh content is the king, but I've seen pages not updated for years that keep their keyword rank untouched despite desperate daily fresh content of the competitors. Why? No GEO targeting set. NO Spam here. How could it be spam for google.com and not for google.ca ? This is a matter of google.com vs google.ca - 95% of my visitors come from google.ca because the keyword ranks 3rd . And if one searches with google.com the keyword ranks probably 200 ...???
No, I did not set geo preferences. domain is .com , ....no .ca or canada keywords, this is a recipe website . with recipes from all over the world. I just want to rank high when keyword is searched with google.com . This frustrating because the keyword ranks 3rd when searched with google.ca What to do ????? Thank you
Have had similar problems but with the site ranking well on .com when I wanted it to rank better on .com.au. What I have found helps is to make sure you the domain hosted in the USA if you want to target .com. You may also have some links to the site coming from sites on .ca or hosted in Canada which helps it rank better on .ca searches. Also I have had at times some sites getting caught in the mysterious sand box in lets say .ca but not .com or vica versa. I honestly would not see this as any kind of problem, your site has fallen into a niche due to its geographic location or local search criteria, persist with the basics. Good content, backward links and look at this as a positive rather than a negative. You have the site doing ok in .ca now to get it to do the same in .com.
Thank you Milvos Domain is hosted on US located servers. Just a reminder, this is a subdirectory website, not even a subdomain. The main domain however has keywords, description meta containing Canada and Canadian content. To tell you the truth now I am even afraid to touch anything considering google criteria unpredictability, not even to add fresh content since serps for 2, 3 keywords are better every day and I did not add fresh content in many, many weeks. Trafic is not huge but increases steadily Visitors are 100% google organic. Week 13 63 Week 14 94 Week 15 104 Week 16 166 Week 17 181 Week 18 192 Week 19 235 Week 20 295 Week 21 364 Week 22 363 Week 23 396 Week 24 458 Week 25 472
So I touched it ! Included new article and changed the featured articles !!!! Ha Ha ha , I dropped in SERPS adding new content. Bot must be crazy or stupid. Google is way OUT ! So, do not fix, do not touch if you get good, unexplained results.!
