Proximic has more ads than Adsense?

According to an article dated 17-06-2008 at Internetnews.com, Proximic "is opening its doors to publishers of all sizes with a self-serve capability today, bringing it more directly in competition with Google's AdSense."

"They're both going after the same market, but Proximic takes a different approach. Its signature feature is its "pattern proximity" technology, which infers the meaning of Web content without relying keywords or semantic inferences.

The false positives that keyword matches produce are familiar enough (Amazon: rain forest or Internet retailer?), so Proximic instead looks at the patterns of characters to infer the contextual meaning of a Web site, and place ads accordingly."

"..looks at the patterns of characters to infer the contextual meaning of a Web site, and place ads accordingly." How?

    More

Its website claims that "Proximic generates more than 50.000.000 ads and matches them to the content of your site." Is it true that Proximic has more ads inventory than Adsense?

I had submitted my application to participate this morning.

    At Adotas.com I read:

“We take ad depositories and make them relevant for publishers,” Proximic’s CEO, Philip Pieper, told ADOTAS. “We’re sitting on more ads than any other contextual network out there. We’re here to fill in gaps and publish impressions that have not been monetized.”

Not in Alexa top 100K. They hit 88K for ONE DAY in January.
And they have more advertisers than AdSense?

    Nobody believes this.
Just one site of mine gets more traffic than Proximic. And I am very small potatoes.

They are pushing Amazon.com, shopping.com, shopzilla.com, and yahoo.shopping. Oh yeah, I really want those ads!
Found on every Adsense blocking list.

As with any new venture, there is always the hype. Maybe they will rule, but right now, they are nothing. Good test for the early adopters. I am a very late adopter. Too many busted experiences. Let somebody else do the alpha testing.

If you believe that, then I have a great deal for you on a bridge in Brooklyn. I'll let it go for $3 million.

Proximic was involved in many big ventures recently.

"A tiny 14-man startup in Munich called Proximic wants to give Google a run for its money. But it is not going after search. It is coming from behind with an attack on AdSense. Proximic has signed deals to syndicate product listings from both eBay’s Shopping.com and Yahoo’s Shopping Network as contextual ads on other Websites."

    Surf Dude,

I think Proximic is going to be big. When they started, I introduced YouTube, MySpace, etc. to my visitors. Now they are big. When WordPress was started about 3/4 years ago, I picked many good addresses such as 2cents, snaps, flavours, donald trump, etc (against tos to give full urls) because the majority think WordPress won't be better than Blogger. Now many big bloggers had adopted WordPress.

Yes, they could become big. But now, they aren't.

I don't think that YouTube and MySpace became big, just because you introduced them to your visitors.

    Whose TOS? Yours? Not digitalpoints!

HUH? Is your "typical Adsense campaign" getting a CTR of 0.25%?
You better give it up now, because that is TERRIBLE! And 1.5%? Also TERRIBLE! I guess that some of that funny stuff has filtered it's way down to Germany from Amsterdam! Seems like Proximic likes to make things up.

    50 Million ads?
    25 million from eBay.com, and 25 million from shopping.yahoo.com.

I'm not trying to rain on anybodies parade here, but it takes more than a good idea and wishful thinking to make a successful enterprise. Since Proximic was brought up, it is only fair to examine the company, and make observations.

I didn't say that I was responsible for the growth of those sites but I was one of the first few to recognize their potentials. Since my site was getting more than 15K hits/day, a lot of netizens had read my recommendation.

Once (just once) I made the mistake of having in my post a direct link to my website and I was banned for six months.
