I can understand that being a small store, Microsoft makes them pay way more for a copy of vista/ xp than they would dell !

It's not about how much money they will get from that store, it's just a matter of stopping piracy

One word it is stealing, Microsoft did the right thing to stop copyright infringements. Though I would hope that they concentrate more on those big time pirates rather than small pop and mom stores.

Microsoft is not going nuts, they are not after the money. They sure have the money, just that they are enforcing their copyrights and intellectual assets.

I totally agree. The small business was actually installing the OEM and selling it without paying at all. They did the right thing. It's unfair to other small businesses that are playing by the rules and they have to compete with that.

Were they reselling duplicate copies of Microsoft Windows XP or Vista. If they were wouldn't they have to hack the software? I thought Microsoft had their software designed to where it could only be installed once per computer.

Not that I know of. For XP for eg you can install for a number of times before you need to call up their support line to activate your product. For Vista I heard there is some kind of mechanism to track if you are reinstalling the OEM version on a different computer. Have not tested that out.

LMAO. Yea, of course they do...

That is their "activation" system. OEM software doesn't require activation. Enough said.

Personally, I don't see the big issue with the computer store using illegal copies of the software. The issue with the software industry is that the big corporations are more concerned with protecting their monopolistic copyrights than serving the people with useful applications at affordable rates. If Microsoft Vista was available at affordable prices, less people would illegally install the software because they would have the money to purchase it.

This is why that I say that all of these small time computer stores should offer to pre-install Linux on all of their computers so that they don't have to worry with the ridiculous regulations placed in by the Microsoft monopoly.

    That's just my opinion though...

Problem is how do you define affordable? I mean Linux is out there, those that can't "afford" Vista can just opt for Linux. If the computer stores can't "afford" to install licensed Vista than what they can do is to offer Linux, simple as that. Linux distros like Ubuntu is easy to install for desktop and works similar to Windows anyway.

I think Microsoft won't get anything huge out of these lawsuits. At best, their attorney fees and other legal fees will just be reimbursed and probably a little amount as "damages."

Bottom line is --- Microsoft is not turning a blind eye to copyright infringement. They want to show the public that while they may be a huge corporation, they still need to fight for their rights as legit business entities.

Piracy and Google are unfortunately your 2 biggest enemies!!

Piracy is more or less curtailed after years of efforts and Google is not invincible.
