My business idea.

I have been wanting to start my own business for quite some time now. Right now i own around 7 websites, one personal blog. www.cashhelwig.com and the rest are niche related websites.

My business idea is some sort of online marketing/seo services type business. Where company's will come to me for help with getting their website promoted on the web. I will do things like submit their website to directories, submit articles, find them advertising slots on various related high page rank websites, give them an analysis of their competitors in related niches, and anything else related.

What do you guys think about this sort of a business startup. I have NO web design/programing capabilities. Thus will need to hire one, but as far as all the other stuff goes related to marketing. I am very knowledgeable in it.

Any sort of feedbackwould be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Cash Helwig

It's easy to start, not easy to compete and get clients. Ideas are good, but works great if the marketing side is done right.

You say its "your business idea". I don't mean to be blunt, but it is not a unique idea. There are hundreds of people doing this. Some large companies some small companies and some individuals.

There is a lot of competiton, but why not try if you have determination.

    Hello tactishian.

I personally think it is a great idea! With the right attitude and people behind you, you can practically become successful in any arena. I started CG (link on my signature) and earned my first $10 alone (that time) and I was happy. I'm not a writer but look what I have created, a writing portal. Point is, you could be the manager but not the programmer.

I have known few of my friends doing this kind of business. They are handling 1-3 websites and they worked for it for about 3 months and they get paid. Not all businesses are able to pay the 'famous' SEO experts so this is where you want to establish your roots.

Since you are doing SEO, it is better to have a personal or business website that exhibits your knowledge and prowess in your field. Just my 2cent.

As one of the previous posters said, you could do great if your rates are good. But you will definitely need proof. If you just tell them what you'll do they'll take a gamble when buying your services. But when you can actually show them "these are the sites I'm promoting and this is how they're doing" then you're in a way better position. Especially when those sites are making a decent amount of money and are ranked pretty good.

You could operate a business like this perfectly by outsourcing everything if you wanted to.

tactishian, my advice is to find someone who currently employs the business model (marketing/SEO servoces) that you want to get into - see if they need some help. Tell them up front that you'd like to be doing what they're doing, and you want to learn some of the details. Chances are you'll find someone willing to help you that can also benefit from your involvement (even if it's temporary). You'll learn a lot faster this way, and depending on the quality/skill of whoever you partner with, chances are you'll avoid a lot of the roadblocks when you start up for yourself.

You will be entering a highly competitive market, so make sure you offer something else that most of the others don't. What will separate you from the rest? You have to know the answer to that question, otherwise you will be trampled on by your competition.

But, this sort of thing is in high demand at the moment. Good luck!

It's a really good idea. A lot of internet marketers are already doing that with a concept called "Offline Gold."

Offline business don't know that much, so you can usually get away with charging more money!

I think the market is over saturated. However, you can get a good start promoting your services here at DP.

Marketing stuff is main thing which you say you can handle well then there is no problem because you hire people for other technical things.

It seems like many people are already doing it. Competition will be tough - I will suggest building up your expertise in a particular niche - like SEO for health sites only or something along the line. Having a unique selling proposition will help too.

That the market is saturated is not really true.

The market is full of people who

    a) know a lot but do nothing with that knowledge

    b) download everything that passes in their inbox and think it makes them experts

    c) know very little but still give it a shot anyway

    d) people who are bad, bad, really bad at SEo or whatever they do but can BS all the same

A good friend of mine, Sam Stephens said to me many moons ago that all that you need to do is provide a good service or product and you'll be head and shoulders above the competition ... its true.

No matter what your skill level is, you should aim to excel at what you do as you build your business.

Go for it, YOUR customers are waiting for the solutions YOU and only YOU can provide.

PM me if you need any help getting it off the ground and I'll see if I can help in any way at all. If I can't I'll let you know.

Our company have recently been looking to hire someone to do the kind of jobs that you listed. There are a few around but not alot, despite it not being a unique idea, if you got the prices right it could be a success
