Okay I have heard a few of you guys say that when you start your SEO plan if the market is very competitive you will start on long tail keywords and keywords that are not very competitive to get some traffic coming in.

You then say that you will start progressing to the more major keywords after you have nailed the less competitive ones.

Can you please explain this transition from less competitive to competitive keywords?

Does this mean you page copy is optimized for the less competitive keywords, the keyword meta tag has the less competitive keywords and you backling anchor text has the less competitive keywords.

Once these keywords are hammered do you then change the copy and meta keywords and then start getting the competitive keywords?

    OR

Do you optimize for the competitive keywords copy and meta, but the backlinks are of those for less competitive???? Then you move onto competitive keyword backlinks???

    Please explain???

    TY

I'll work with any term that has less than 25,000,000 results in google. I always vary my link text and then see what long tails I get hits for on the theme. This usually shows me some terms that I'm on the second and third pages of google. I'll then work on those to try and get them to bump up. Because, they're related to my main terms it usually helps the main term too. Long story even longer, it's an easy way to vary your incoming link text and have a balanced link profile which will usually get me to the top of the 25m and less words. Once I get that one going I'll try the same method with a more competitive term.

if it's competetive, I'll dive in straight with the compettitors key words, that way even the long tail will be hit. As long as every long tail term that you have researched is in your copy and in the variant of your anchor text

first it depends on the site and its age, PR of the home page and other factors like link it has before we start the real SEO. So if the site is old and it has some PR with little modification and few links it can do very well but it site is new then it will take time and lots of link. So it is difficult for the new site to rank for very competitive keywords compared to an old site. this is wht i have analyzed.. thank you

Less competitive keywords are those keywords with high searches but less competitors. You can change or add your metas once you less competitive keywords are already ranking.

At first stage of your optimization and if the competition on your niche is very tough you have to choose your minor keywords as your long tail keyword title this strategy is so effective in search engine rankings, to get easier to rank when you decided to use all major keywords.

So after you have done that, then do you change all you rmeta tags, sales copy etc to hit the competitive keywords?

Will changing things for the more competitive words not make you lose your work that you have done work the less competitive?

once you get rank in less competitive keywords it means that your site is already got populary and if you already have popularity its time to get narrowing your keywords into more competitive in this technique you can easily get rank unlike using a competitive keyword in first stage of your optimization, its just like finding a small needle in the field.

I still don't get one part!

You optimise for a good keyord with low competition.

Your copy keywords BL's are for the low competition keywords.

Okay lets say that is done.

Now I want to go after the high competition keywords.

Do not reply with your explanation without refering to my following point as 1,2,3 etc:

1)Do you now replace the meta keywords with the competitve keywords or do you simple add more keywords?

2)Do you re-do your page text to include the new keywords and get rid of the old keywpords?

About Meta tags: You have enough keywords space to target both long tail and short tail. (And also long tail many times includes short tail inside the phrase).

The Change will be in the inbound links - The anchor text you put in them.
